Target Practice (DayZ) 1335 Posted March 16, 2013 Whilst I wouldn't go as far as to say 'don't trust anyone', I'd certainly advise being careful - sadly there are quite a lot of players who will shoot you first and ask questions later, and the fact you're unarmed and no threat to them won't matter. Just be careful when engaging other players and use your common sense. :)

Target Practice (DayZ) 1335 Posted March 16, 2013 Copy/pasta'd from a post I made somewhere else:1. Assume everyone and everything will kill you the first chance they get. A fresh spawn with a hatchet can and will kill a well-meaning veteran with an M16A4 if the vet lets his guard down. You don't have to shoot everyone you see on sight, but don't fall into the trap of thinking that just because the other guy only has an axe that he wouldn't try and kill you with it if you turn your back.2. Think ahead - Always make sure you've got your next 2-3 meals and drinks on your person. That way if you hit a run of bad luck while looting, you'll have a little bit of leeway before you have to start taking risks to stay alive. Sure, you don't have a broken leg right now, but if you get one, it might be a long, long crawl to the nearest hospital, so it's better to keep basic medical supplies on your person.3. Travel light - Don't bog yourself down with stuff you don't need right now like engine parts and tons of ammo. One clip and a spare should be more than sufficient to keep you alive if the worst happens, and you can start looking for vehicle parts once you've actually found a vehicle.4. Know your surroundings - The forest North of Msta is a very, very different environment to the forest surrounding the Northwest Airfield. Know where you can press ahead and travel quickly and where you need to take your time and be careful. Assume EVERY town/city has people inside it and snipers watching it.5. Know your enemy - Approaching an area known for snipers? Think like a sniper - if you were trying to hide somewhere where you'd be hard to see but have a good view, where would you go? How about scavengers? Which routes into and out of the town look safest but with lootable buildings on the way? If you can see a good way in, chances are, others can see it too.
_Anubis_ (DayZ) 139 Posted March 16, 2013 (edited) Hello, I'm Vili from Finland, and I'm new to this community, I would like to have some tips for beginners :P I keep dieing and killed by bandits.. :/I really need some help :/1. Learn the map (the one on internet) and leave the coast (don't look back is a good advice!)2. Locate the nearest isolated farm close to you, go there, grab an hatchet3. Learn to kill Z while they climb the stairs4. Go out, call more Z, learn to kill them while they walk indoor5. repeat 3. and 4. until you are good, scavenge the farm and loot the Z, get a rifle if you wish (if you are wounded, eat)6. now go out and learn to kill Z outdoor7. look for the nearest town North of the farm with a supermarket - forget Cherno and Elektro8. go there using forests as coverage9. visit the supermarket, get tools and bigger backpack, repeat the visits if needed10. learn to kill animals, cook meat, boil water (using canteens and tools from the supermarket)11. visit enough deer stands to get a military weapon and ammo, always traveling using forests12. Now, you are ready, go back to Elektro/Cherno, hunt bandits and snipers and teach noobs how to break the glasses of the hospitals and get stuff_Anubis_ Edited March 16, 2013 by _Anubis_
R-Dog2422 13 Posted March 16, 2013 go into Cherno or elektro. grab a weapon, they can be in almost every building in those two cities. go to the supermarket and get food and soda. you don't need to go to the hospital to find bandages, they are in a lot of buildings. However, if you want to get morphine, painkillers, etc. Go to the hospital. As soon as you get all the supplies you need, run. Get the hell out of that death trap and go north. Neinsager 30 Posted March 16, 2013 (edited) I keep dieing and killed by bandits.. :/Start on servers with low population. For a newbie, the Zeds are enough to handle....no need to encounter other players.I know because, I'm doing it exactly the same way now, and am still alive after 12 hours of play (and six of those with an infection from an unboiled water bottle...duh...).Furthermore: For raiding towns, I found servers where it is mooinlit night much easier than in broad daylight - Zeds can't see sh** at night. trunkz jr 61 Posted March 16, 2013 Try on our server where you won't get snipped in electro.
