Dick, believe it or not, is a fairly common name here in the US of A. and this particular Richard so happened to be somewhat skinny. I suppose it was meant to be a clever and humorous double entendre. Many people get a kick out of the name, and I suppose if he happened to be obese, he would have called it "Fat Dick's".I hope that answers your question.
