My Hopes for the Standalone

Recommended Posts

Since everyone is hyped up for the standalone version of DayZ, I decided to contribute to that massive amount of hype with what I hope comes with it.

First of all, like most rational survivors, I hope PVP is tuned down- not all the way, just a bit so that it isn't practically a deathmatch- and PVE is ramped up.

Zombies need to be more dangerous. They need to make survivors employ stealth and efficient- yet silent- means of killing them. I hope to see more melee weapons, too. If zombies pose an actual threat, you won't just be focusing on not getting shot in a large city. You'll be focusing on not getting shot or eaten. If there is a larger threat from the unde infected, there will probably be more cooperation between normal players. Of course, I may be wrong.

I also hope to see, uhm, lower standards for running the game. Don't laugh at me for not having a 'gaming rig', but the main reason I want a standalone is so I don't have to play the game at very low and worry about FPS drops.

I also hope for barricading. Yes, barricading.

I hope us survivors can board up windows, move cars and such to make barricades, and etc. I want to have a mechanic where you can make a sort of.. home. Maybe make it limited to one server, not persistent. Players could choose one server to live on or something. Of course, this idea brings a lot of new problems.

I hope for less glitches and a better melee system.

Right now, our hatchets are just retextured guns with a low range and silent sound. Lets hope we can bash in infected heads with bats, knives, and the plethora of blunt and sharp objects around to use to creatively- and silently- take out those pesky zombies.

So, what do you guys hope for?

I like the part about being able to run it on lower end PC's, and not have to have some $5000 quantum processor liquid nitrogen cooled, etc. system to get 40 FPS. The more people that can run the game on their PCs, the higher the player base, the more sales, the more variety in player types, and more people can enjoy the game.

Agreed with PVE.

There is really no terrible consequence for killing a guy. Other than you just get more loots.

im not sure for what dayZ standalone is running on. But arma 3 i can max that game out. And still get like 39-50 fps. If dayz uses the arma 3 engine. You may see a much better increase in fps.

Your computer specs? I'm guessing you're running a computer with a Seven-Thousand-Core Processor, Super-HD 7040p Graphics Card and a rate of 10342348932.02349 GHz.

Im hoping that they can successfully turn an old Military Simulator into a flawless zombies game. What I want to see is less of a focus on military weapons. I want to see more civilian/criminal weaponry. More pistols, more small smgs/machine pistols, hunting rifles, civilian version of Ak's and M4's like the AR15. Less DMRs, less AS50s and M107s. Make ammo rare for high end weapons, discourage south-coast DM + zombies, the list goes on.

You don't need a super computer to run a game. Yes, PC gaming costs money. Yes, not everyone has that much money. However, dicking on someone for having a good computer is a, well, dick move.

I think that would be what is needed. some kind of system that rewards and punishes to a deeper extent for killing/helping. Maybe something to deter people from just camping bambis or SoS. The game good really hit it huge, if an internal in depth system was in place for your choices vs just kill/be killed karma and such. Maybe some bonuses for being in a group or working with other players and such. No non realistic bonuses but something to the effect of morale system maybe. I am sure it's much to soon to go that much in detail, but if it turns out to be a SOS /DM then it's pointless since there are plenty other games that offer that.

Make killing zombies and or completing player created runs more rewarding than players in some ways and it could help.
