bfisher 561 Posted April 3, 2013 I watched a bunch of YouTube videos before I actually installed DayZ, but that seemed to make it worse! The first video I saw was a group of bandits picking up newspawns in the middle of the night, driving them in a bus for 20 minutes to some wilderness base and making them fight to the death with axes! For the first week of playing it felt like Rick Grimes in Walking Dead or the dude from 28 Days Later waking up in the hospital and wandering around like what the fuck. The first time I saw a helicopter was scary as shit too. It didn't do anything but fly 1000 feet above Kamarova, but I didn;t know what to do. I still get freaked out from time to time and I've been playing for like 9 months. Like the other day, I found a dead guy in Novy Sobor with a shit-ton of gear and a damaged loaded up ATV about a mile south. I didn't know what went down but I just wanted to get the hell out of there.
GodOfGrain 191 Posted April 3, 2013 The worst thing you can do is explaining someone how to play DayZ.
Enrico (DayZ) 6 Posted April 3, 2013 (edited) I remember crawling everywhere to avoid the dreaded zombies... took so long to get to all those closed doors. The most fun I've ever had army crawling a character for hours at a time, lol. My wife must have thought I'd gone crazy.I always avoided Cherno and Elektro because something in the game description talked about the cities being more dangerous because of zombies, and the forums talked about all the bandits. I was expecting some impossible death trap or something. Finally, one night playing during night time hours in-game (something else that was still fun as a newb), I decided I'd take a look at Cherno, so I snuck up to one of the hills outside it. I can still remember coming over the ridge and seeing the ghostly buildings silhouetted there, and right then someone lit a flare in the city and started shooting. Scared the crap outa' me, but I watched for a couple minutes and then ran.Yeah, I sorta' liked all the newness of it. I'd go back if it was possible, but on the flipside, I also like being a "grizzled veteran" too.Edit: My avatar is a screenshot I took right after I made my first kill of another player... that's another big thing that gets lost over time, that gut wrenching, heart pounding uncertainty when you get in that situation. I remember wrestling with whether or not to take the shot for an "eternity" before I finally pulled the trigger... Edited April 3, 2013 by Enrico
