lindey 69 Posted March 9, 2013 Idea: remove ammo from top right corner on screen, and let it check only checking magazine by 2xR. character will pull it out, check and load again, which takes 2-3 second. After checking the mags character will get info if mag is full, halved or nearly empty.
-Gews- 7443 Posted March 9, 2013 Well since magazines automatically push the next bullet to the top, you wouldn't know unless it was translucent or had holes, or a slot in it. Much better than automatic bullet counters, though.(ACE,,,, where aaaare you)
mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted March 9, 2013 After using the same magazine for a while you'd be able to guess roughly by the weight of it.It'd be easy enough to show that with the nonspecific "About half" or "nearly empty".You should also be able to chamber a round and check your mag every shot, just to be sure.Better safe than sorry. slivniku@gmail.com 93 Posted March 9, 2013 good ideawill have to roughly count rounds just like IRL - when unsure, reload...
BSB Jimmy 360 Posted March 9, 2013 yeah i like this idea
Clumzy (DayZ) 377 Posted March 9, 2013 There should also be an option to individually count rounds.

Much better than automatic bullet counters, though.IDK how to make it more realistic, maybe it'll be checked by weight or smthAnyway seeing there's a minimum of 1 bullet in mag makes it good to goThere should also be an option to individually count rounds.well, to make the game more atmospherical, may be there'll be an option to manually recount rounds from mag (which takes nearly 10 seconds), something to do near the campfire... I'm also for idea "reloading 2 half-full mags in one nearly full", which will take about 20 seconds (that's lot of work you know)
aksuduud 64 Posted March 9, 2013 I like this, maybe in the SA you could also be able to find magazines that are partly transparent for faster checking on bullet count?
sol 9 Posted March 9, 2013 I like the idea of taking the magazine out of the gun to check bullet count, as seen in Red Orchestra - it'll give you vague answers, like if the magazine is almost full, half full, nearly empty, etc. I think making it possible to load and unload individual bullets is a good idea regarding combining magazines and such. I believe rocket wanted to make it so you can find ammunition and magazines separately, so there will certainly be something similar to that in the game. Maybe you'll find a half full magazine in a house and some bullets in the street to top it off with, or something.
TacticalLeaf (DayZ) 5 Posted March 19, 2013 I like it this would work best with the G36C since it has a clear a view of its mag
PracticalTactical 164 Posted March 19, 2013 They have a system like this in Red Orchestra. It works well because it wont tell you the exact number of bullets but only the approximate amount left.*The mag feels almost full**The mag feels half empty**The mag feels almost empty**The mag feels empty*
Pertti 7 Posted March 19, 2013 (edited) They have a system like this in Red Orchestra. It works well because it wont tell you the exact number of bullets but only the approximate amount left.*The mag feels almost full**The mag feels half empty**The mag feels almost empty**The mag feels empty*This is exactly what popped into my head when I read the first post. I liked the ammo checking system on Red Orchestra. Sometimes I forgot how many shots I took at a guy and had to check my ammo and it worked really well with any gun. I would like a different animation as well, depending on what you're wearing and what stance you are in.If you have a helmet you can hit your magazine against it and estimate how many rounds you have left. If you don't have a helmet and you're crouching, hit the mag against your knee etc. etc.A numeric ammo counter is really stupid and has no place in a realistic surviving game such as DayZ, and I believe they have already thought of an ammo check feature for the standalone that fits in well with the minimal GUI they are talking about. Maybe they can enable a CoD-style counter (even Call of Duty doesn't show your ammo info on HC mode) in regular mode (nobody who plays DayZ for the sake of surviving in a hardcore environment and realism will select regular anyway).
