Lepryy 54 Posted March 9, 2013 How would I tell what my VRAM is? I know I have 6gb of normal RAM. Always looking to improve FPS as many ways as I can.

madmega 16 Posted March 9, 2013 VRAM=your graphics card video memory, the majority of people ( not a fact, only my thoughts ) have around 1gb
Pariah_ 4 Posted March 11, 2013 ...so if you want to know what VRAM you have you can run DXDIAG... just fyi (NVIDIA cards with optimus will not report this correctly, if im not mistaken... I know mine wouldn't) my question is when you put in the maxvram does it have to be in quotations? or does it matter? i've tried it with and with out and it seems to not make a difference, but maybe im just not doing it correctly
floogy (DayZ) 25 Posted March 11, 2013 Huh, been playing A2 for years and never knew about this. Never got terrible performance so I never thought to tweak things. But If it is only using 512mb at 'very high' I've been missing out. Going to check this out. Unless my vram is set to max already.
madmega 16 Posted March 11, 2013 Im glad this thread helped with something ^^
Budheadz 28 Posted March 11, 2013 I've been using -maxvram=2047 for as long as I can remember, make sure you use -cpucount=X -exthreads=X and -maxmem=2047 as well (2047mb is the hard-coded maximum and I think everyone has more than 2Gb RAM these days) to make sure that all your hardware is properly detected or there isn't much point."-maxvram=2047 -cpucount=X -exthreads=X -maxmem=2047"Are all these commands written in the launch options together with a space between each, or what ?And on the -cpucount= command, is it best to choose only the physical cores, no hyperthreading ?And one more question!I have an i53210m, its a dual core with 2 virtual cores. With this cpu, would it be best to use "-cpucount=2 -exthreads=3" ?
madmega 16 Posted March 11, 2013 yea but dont use the ". arma uses 2 cores best from what i been reading, dont know about the threads though
Budheadz 28 Posted March 12, 2013 Ok, well i tryed, -maxvram=2000 -cpucount=2 -exthreads=3 -maxmem=2000. Didnt notice any change what so ever.. 35/45 frames outside cities, 20/30 frames inside still. Tried with video mem settings on default and max too to make sure... Would running the mod from the dayz commander make any difference to this ?
Easy_Tiger (DayZ) 33 Posted March 12, 2013 (edited) Alot of good info in this thread, the maxVram param has helped smooth things out for me.Another basic tip (which i overlooked to start with :P) is checking your free memory and closing down unneccesary processes, Now this isnt really relevant for 64bit OS's but if your like me running Win7 32bit with 4GB of ram then freeing up 2gig for dayz can be a challenge when you take into account the OS overhead and any other processes running. With all the optimisations suggested on this forum I still got intermittent frame stutter until I realised I only had 1.4GB of memory free when I was telling Dayz I had 2 Gb free.... After closing down some processes I was left with 2.2 GB free and when I launched Dayz all the stuttering had gone!I will be upgrading to 64bit for the standalone so I can up the ram and load all the pbo's into a ramdisk for even better performance but things are pretty sweet until thenP.S Add your arma/arma OA/steam folders to your AV exclusions, This also had a significant impact on performanceP.P.S If you launch through Steam you do not need to be 'online', switching to offline mode will make Steam use 50MB less memory ;) Edited March 12, 2013 by Easy_Tiger

gloopsgf 35 Posted March 15, 2013 Notice he was in sp... Sp has a lot better fps than dayz mp, because mp fps is also based a little on Internet speed.

arkaeldren 53 Posted March 15, 2013 Used to run with 2 GTX 275's with the same option line code. Now I have a GTX 680 with seriously no difference. Need a new MB and CPU soon. Arma 2 is the utter sponge of CPU... makes me cry a little bit

I once read about a guy that got more fps if he hosted a scenario/campaign then if he just played it normally.
