Dayz-like mod development on ARMA III

Recommended Posts

Recently I was surfing youtube for anything on ARMA III modding and found a couple of videos with zombies like this one:

I wish Rocket would just develop dayz from ARMA II engine right away. I mean look at that, looks so awesome. The sprinting animation is...so smooth. The guns feel nice too. What doy uo guys think?

I think using a pre existing engine on DayZ standalone would limit the capabilities of what the developers would want to do with the game, much like how arma 2 engine restricts them for the DayZ mod. It is much better to build it from the ground up and customize it how ever they wish. That is my guess anyways.

Hello there

It's just a quick port of an a2 mission. There's loads floating about. It's fun but far more simplistic than the mod.

Exactly what Orlok said, it's not in development for Arma 3, because it's just an Arma 2 mod. It came out before DayZ did.

And by the way OP. The Arma 3 engine is the engine from Arma 2 with some tweaks. it's not a new engine by any means. Dean has been picking bits and pieces from Arma 3, so just be patient. I for one don't mind the graphics in the dayz SA, it's not worth the several months development time of importing all the work they've done on arma 3 into dayz, and having to make a new map for it as well.

Trust me the SA engine is going to be better for DayZ than any other engine. Specfically because Rocket and co. basically took bits and pieces and made the engine work specifically for DayZ. It's more like an ARMA 2.5 engine. It's the best thing for DayZ. Not to mention it gives them more freedom for features etc.

hello there

It's also a mission not a mod.

A very cleverly scripted mission, but a mission nonetheless.
