Garbled sound distorted video then crash

Recommended Posts

*Which version of the game did you purchase? STEAM or RETAIL or MIXED:

-Running steam version.

*Are you running an Arma 2 OA beta patch? If so what version?:

-102591

*Which method are you using to launch the game? I.E Sixupdater/steam/batch file:

-Steam

*What is the Error/Problem you're having? Please provide screenshots if possible:

-After not playing for a while, I install the new patch, 1.7.6.1 manually through steam like I always have, and after playing for around 20-30 minutes, the game audio gets garbled and I start to get almost like artifacts on screen and after around 30 seconds it crashes to desktop. Where the colors on my desktop are all wonky and I'm not able to run my browser without it crashing and are forced to restart my computer to get it working again.

I've had this happen in the past I quit for the same reason before and when I returned new patches were out and this problem did not happen at all. I have troubledshooted for this, it is not my video card or cpu overheating, as I have put the VC fan on 100% and monitored the temp in my other screen. It would never get above 65c.

I did the same thing with my CPU never got above 45c I even removed the side of the case and felt the temps with my hand on the cpu and video card and it was nothing out of the ordinary.

I remember when this happened months ago, one of the things I tried at the time was switching different drivers I don't recall if it made a difference or not, but this time I was running older drivers while it was doing this problem so I updated to the latest and it still does this. Here's a video of what happens. Funny, but when I was recording it, it wasn't as colorful as fraps portrayed it afterwards.

-Your Operating System:

-Have you looked at these threads?

-Yes.

Try updating your drivers.

If you bothered to read my post you would of seen I did that already.

I skimmed over it. But change your attitude, because at the very least I bothered to help, and I'm probably all you'll get.

Anyways, have you tried updating your BIOS lately?

Are you using a HD TV? It's possible that some of the games are using a color palette (or bit depth) that the TV doesn't know how to handle.

When's the last time you cleaned your system? As in, for dust?

Have you scanned for registry errors?

Does this happen with other games? If so, it's probably an issue with the graphics card dying.

Well, that's what I can do for you right now. I'll get back to you tomorrow, but right now I need some sleep. I ope you can get this thing figured out.

I don't have an attitude. Usually when people respond in that manner it's usually trolls. That's exactly the reason why I try to give as much info and make a video showing what I see happening to avoid responses that are things I have already tried but yeah if you weren't trolling then my apologies.

I updated my bios a while back but I just checked it now and it's waaaaaaay outdated. I'll have to try that next, been trying some other things.

I'm not using a hdtv using a 19 inch LG along with a 23 inch asus as a side monitor.

I'm usually pretty good with cleaning my case out do it every few months. After you said something about it I went ahead and cleaned it out just in case with some can air real good and it still does the error.

I scanned the reg and fixed some errors. Maybe that will help some. I'll have to play around with it some more seeing how it sometimes takses at least an hour to occur.

This has never happened in any other games. In fact, I can't recall the last time one of my games crashed like this.

I thought the same thing too about the card maybe dying, thing is I used to run crossfire but I only run of the cards now but I have the exact same two and have swapped them out and tried them and they both do the same error. Tried switching the drivers also.

Maybe fixing those reg probs and updating the bios will help i'll get on that and thanks for the suggestions.

Am I understanding correctly that you're running two monitors on your 6870? If that's the case, have you tried just running off the single monitor?

Also, have you tried removing the overclock on your CPU? Would certainly be one of the first places I looked if I was having unexplainable crashes.

Failing that, I'd likely agree that it might be that your 6870 is poorly.

I doubt it has anything to do with the overclock, I've never had a problem with it and it can play every other game without any crashes or anything. I tried both of my 6870s and they both had the same problem so I doubt it's the card.

I did try running just one monitor, and while I was running two could never get past an hour without a crash.. I've been playing for about 6-7 hours without a crash at all. Seems like that might be the problem. Wouldn't be surprising I've had nothing but problems with AMD drivers crossfire etc.

Seems DayZ is either not compatible with your GPU, or that your GPU has some fried circuits.

(Does other games work for you?)

-DayzForumer, The non-helper.

Other games work fine and it only started doing this on Dayz after the patch. It's not the video cards as I have two that are the exact same and it does the same thing with either one. It hasn't done it in a while though, usually it will happen within the hour but the other day I was able to play for 6 hours after unpluggin one of my monitors as someone suggested.

I didn't think to try removing the overclock as it's been stable for years and I've never had a problem with it even in more stressfull games.

I did try unplugging one of the monitors like you said after I did that I was able to play the game for 6 hours with the error occuring.(usually it would happen after 30 minutes.) Doesn't really matter as now I'm getting horrible fps performance once again.
