An Idea For the New Cans

Since there has been so much time put into making and putting the new cans into DayZ it would be a shame for them to just go to waste. Myself and the group I play with were thinking of ideas that could keep people happy on both sides of the argument. I came up with the idea that the cans could just have the skin of the can and when it is in the inventory or on the ground it would just be called Soda (Cola). I noticed this today when I had one of the new cans in my inventory in 1.6.1 and saw it was still there with the same skin and it was just called Soda (Cola). I think this would make people on both sides happy. I would like to know your thoughts about this. and if you have any more idea I would like to hear them.

I don't see why people made a big deal out of the new cans. They aren't hurting anything. I personally liked them, but oh well.

Yeah I agree with with his post too, but I think everyone that complained will just continue to complain about it. Hopefully they take his idea though and everyone can be happy.

Looks like you completely misunderstood the situation.

people on reddit where complaining that they didn't like the cans and would have liked a saying in the process. people from the forum then told them to shut up, because the opinion of reddit-users isn't important and they should find their own game if they don't like it.

That's when the things escalated.

The fight was never about cans, it was about wether there is a large community or a small group that gives a shit about everyone elses opinion.

I for myself, am more frequent on reddit at the moment, as there are people there, actually making suggestions on how to improve gameplay.

Some problems have been solved on reddit, in threads that rocket himself is aware of (as he commented there), weeks ago, that are suggested here as something completely new now. Still some people here behave, as if the forum was the core of the process, lightyears ahead of everyone else and all those suckers aren't even worth to be listened to.

But yeah. it's all about a few idiots who didn't like the design but had no idea of the game whatsoever.. just keep telling yourself that.

it's a lot easier not to look beneath the surface...

The issue is over, let sleeping dogs lie.

To sum up:

• Cans were put in as a tribute to mods by *some* devs (not all).
  
• Mods had no input on the matter, and found out after the fact.
  
• Devs responded to complaints.
  
• Cans canned.
  
• Development communication improved.
  

Let us all move on together as a single gaming community to help improve both the mod and the standalone. While you may have different opinions on the actions taken, the ultimate outcome is a lesson learned for the development team for future iterations :)

@Liquidmind - Please, let it go. Do it for those poor baby seals.

@OP - If I remember correctly, it was in fact simply called 'Soda' in your inventory. The only way you could see the actual can's name was if you bent over and looked at its label. I may be wrong, so beans to your idea.

Come on over if you want to try your hand at can-design and have some GIMP/Photoshop skills. I'd like to maybe get a community driven effort going to make some new assets/cans.
