MrONEBADDUDE (DayZ) 2 Posted February 28, 2013 I'm planning on getting Arma II: Combined operations Friday so I can finally play DayZ, but I hear that the mod is going to be switched over to Arma III. Is this true? I hope not because I've been bored lately waiting to play DayZ.
TheBambiAvenger 146 Posted February 28, 2013 If you're that anxious I would just buy the mod now, they are releasing the standalone later in the year and that probably will be much better than the mod.
novogeek 253 Posted February 28, 2013 I think it will still take a while for it to switch over to Arma3 (if it does ... not sure). If you can afford to buy it now, then buy the game and get the mod and join us all. You'll still get a good couple of month game play from it before you have to make the decision to go Standalone or Mod.Besides ... might give you an opportunity to practice a little beforehand and get more familiar with things.Just my opinion ... I dunno.
Mitunzz 90 Posted February 28, 2013 Yes, it will take a while for DayZ mod to come out for ArmA III, considering beta hasn't even been released yet. It's well worth getting ArmA II: OA for DayZ mod, because you will always have ArmA II: OA with it. ArmA is a great game on it's own.

aussiestig 681 Posted February 28, 2013 (edited) I highly doubt the official DayZ mod will be moved over to ArmA III until the full release happens, which is said to be Q3 this year. The map in the alpha is pretty small Edited February 28, 2013 by AussieStig
RuecanOnRails (DayZ) 23 Posted February 28, 2013 There will ~NOT~ be an official version of DayZ on Arma 3. DayZ is a standalone product no longer part of the Arma game series. With that said, there of course will be other zombie mods available which may be similar to DayZ's current form but they will not be officially supported in any capacity. There is also the issue of a very limited modding capabilities in Arma 3 Alpha release, only teh smaller island of Stratis available. It can be guessed that the Beta will open up more possibilities with modding, however we wont see that until mid June (speculating based on alpha lite expiration)I highly recommend picking up Arma II in whatever capacity you choose, whether the bare minimum combined ops, or you go for the complete collection. Arma is a great game outside of DayZ mod

Whether the Mod version of DayZ is moved to ArmA 3 is up to the dev team.
RuecanOnRails (DayZ) 23 Posted February 28, 2013 The community Dev team is still under restrictions set in place by Dean 'Rocket' Hall. The point of Standalone was to get away from the "mod" aspect of it due to it's many limitations and to open up full creative freedom to the project. If Arma 3 gets a mod named DayZ, there's a very good chance Dean and the DayZ dev's will have had nothing to do with it. They may even request a name change for that said mod to avoid confusion between the official and the mod as some of the content and features between the two may conflict or cause other PR problems. Whether the Mod version of DayZ is moved to ArmA 3 is up to the dev team.Rocket has come out and said that if someone in the community ported DayZ to ArmA 3 he would not be opposed, but he would not do it himself nor would the dev team, and it would not be "offical" DayZ like the SA or the CO mod. dallas 5195 Posted February 28, 2013 If you want to play DayZ now, this very moment, get the mod.If you can wait, get the standalone. The standalone has a lot of ArmA 3 developers on the team, if not all of them and the standalone will be a completely different product, designed specifically to make DayZ the best it can ever be. ArmA 3 will be great in it's own right, but with the standalone, the DayZ and ArmA will go their separate ways.No doubt, when ArmA 3 is completed, someone at least as an exercise will attempt to port DayZ mod to ArmA 3, but it will be held back by the same obstacles, which currently hold the mod back. Also there are reserved BI resources for continued support/development for at least a year after the standalone's release. If you're mostly interested in zombie survival, you need to focus on the game, which specifically has designed zombies to be zombies. In ArmA 3 zombies will just be soldiers with zombie hats on, just like the mod.
