Hard drive crashed - Lost character?

Hi guys and gals,

My hard drive died on Sunday. I ordered a replacement, but I'm worried that I lost my character. I bought the game through Steam. If someone else logs into steam as me, will they be able to use my character? Has anyone done any testing with this?

Will I still have my character after I reinstall the game on a new hard drive?

If I recall correctly, your character is tied to your game registration number/ID/whatever you wanna call it.

Cyric, do you know if that means if I re-download the game and re-install I will still have it?

Your character is tied to the game key; use the same steam account and you'll be fine (might need to find some food and water though :-)

It should all be there, as long as you use that steam account.

I kinda wonder that your biggest fear seems to be to loose your DayZ toon. You better not log on these days. :)

Your character will still be there when you log in next time, even after re-install. All the info is saved on a central database.

You will still be alive, but once you log back in, you will need to eat and drink, or you will start losing blood.
