New DayZ Player here...quick question

This may seem like a dumb question at first but bare with me.

I tried picking up scrap metals. It said "You do not have enough space in your inventory". I tried picking up a hatchet and again it said "You do not have enough space in your inventory".

I went through my inventory numerous times, dropped shit, and retried to pick the things up, and still couldnt....

All i have is a bandage, painkillers, a flash light, patrol bag, m16 mag and leefield mag.

And theres a ton of space left over.....

is there something i should know about?

(i tried to take printscreens of ingame but it would only print screen whatever i have opened if i were to alt tab)

Hatchet automaticly goes to the toolbelt, and if you try to remove it from there, and have already an equipped rifle, it won't work.

Scrap metal is literally scrap, it takes 2-3 spots in the inventory, and without a toolbox, you can't do stuff with it.
