I've noticed that while in the sit animation your character begins to do a smoking animation. In the military they tell you not to smoke while in combat, Especially at night, as the enemy (specifically snipers) can see your cig cherry and can easily pick you off. Maybe they could add a faint glow that shows up in your hand when you go into this animation.

Helps with realism

That's some extreme detail and polish. I'd like to see a character smoke if he's carrying cigarettes.

I wouldn't want my character to smoke automatically just because he's sitting down. :S

I don't see why you'd ever want to smoke, especially in a game where you might not yet be addicted. It has only negative effects and reduces your stamina and sense of taste and smell. Why smoke?

If you want smoking then the character in the game that smokes should have 50% less stamina due to the cigarette/cigar smoke works like acid on your loungs which prevent your blood from geting the oxygen it needs.

Well it was already said it could add realism to the game and some people might appreciate it more than others. If they do add it you're not forced to do it.

Lol. No I'm saying the animation is already there. When you sit down and your character douse that thing where he puts his hand to his face. He's supposed to be smoking.

im saying the animation is already there. All they have to do is put a little glowing light in your hand when the animation occurs. It doesn't affect your character in any way.... Unless a sniper sees the glow in which case your characters face might get affected by a bullet lol. Smoking kills.

like I said. The smoking animation is already in the game. It happens when you sit down. All they have to do is add a little orange or red glow in your hand when the animation occurs.

please pay attention to what i said. It doesn't affect your character. Because the animation is already there. When you sit down your character does that thing where he puts his hand up to his face repeadively. It doesn't affect you at all. All I'm saying is when this animation happens, there should be a glow that shows up in your hand. They don't have to add cigarettes, they don't have to make it affect you, it just adds more difficulty to the game in a very small, harmless, easy to code way. It's just adding a light to your hand basically.

In a zombie apocalypse I think to stop running from the zombies to damage your lungs is a immersion breaker, if you go with the whole "It doesn't affect your character." then what's the point in that?

The whole point of adding smoking is that it adds a personal touch to you character. Who the hell would take a smoke break while running from zeds? Have you never spent time sitting around a camp fire with friends just talking?

By that logic, why should we be able to choose what our characters look like? it doesn't affect our ability to survive. Putting sunglasses on your character doesn't reduce the glare, it just makes them look like a Bro wanna-be. What's the point of being able to sit? your character doesn't actually become more rested, and who's going to sit while running from zombies? That would break immersion!

It sounds to me like someone took health class a little to seriously. Smoking doesn't instantly riddle your body with cancer and you don't start wheezing on short walks. What crap is this about smoking burning your lungs like acid and reducing your stamina? Hell I was doing 14 mile trail runs in two hours back when I used to smoke half a pack a day and had for years. I've since quit smoking but it wasn't until i became less physically active that my stamina started to decline. Hell, my Grandpa smoked like a chimney for fifty years and he's still going strong at 92. Well, as strong as a 92 year old can.

Besides, whose character lives long enough that they would need to worry about cancer.

i'm all in for an additional mojo-meter filled up with smoking cigs and consuming alcohol ;)

my idea for nicotine would be very subtle - less appetite

meaning your food-meter decreases a little bit slower after a cig.

and

as mentioned with eating stuff consecutively, there sould be a natural barrier

If you smoke too much cigs you start to vomit

Smoking should definitely have some consequences, not just for the smoker, but for the people who spend a lot of time around the smoker when he smokes as well. Just make the effects build up slowly over time as more smoke is inhaled.

as for the sophisticated diet idea...a dayz average life is just simply not long enough, so i guess it would be too much effort for just a too tiny impact..

So make the effects build up quicker then :). While I'm all for authenticity, we do have to treat dayZ as a game and adjust the timers and whatnot so they make sense from the game's perspective.

well but for me it would be too much gamey..to die because of massive cigarette abuse...

this fits better into a government program to create a free-to-download game that makes aware of the deadly effects of cigarette abuse ;)
