kissa3 1 Posted June 18, 2012 This hotfix we raged about all day. Is it really that bad? First reaction to EVERYTHING what is different is rage. Same stood for me. When i heard about the food being rare, i did not want to play until it was fixed, but me and my buds decided to give it a spin anyway. What followed was the most intense survival experience we have ever seen in a game. That really felt like a simulation.Food was used only when the icon was flashing. Matches and cows were celebrated. Insanely good zombie reaction led to stakeouts and planned movement. When that failed we had a real war on our hands: 20-30 raging zeds charging at us form all directions.Food and ammo got shared, canteens passed around. Finding a can of beans on a downed zombie in a pile of flesh was more exiting then finding an SVD in barracks.Me and 4 of my buds played for 7 hours and enjoyed it thoroughly. That feeling of scarcity combined with superhuman zombie abilities enhanced the entire experience.

kissa3 1 Posted June 18, 2012 Are you suggesting resources should be less common?Yes. I think everyone was in a situation when you would eat stuff only to not to leave anything behind. Also what is the point of having a bar what can kill you, but to refill it you just have to press a "button". Nothing lost, since something you did not pay/sacrifice to get, is worth nothing to you. Techercizer 82 Posted June 18, 2012 OP raises a good point. What's broken to one person is just a challenge to another.
Castle (DayZ) 23 Posted June 18, 2012 The missing food spawns is too tough. You could have made them rarer, but they're not even the only missing spawns. When you add it all together it feels like way too much luck is involved in getting your feet off the ground as it is.The spawn rates could be lowered, but just outright being missing as they are is not okay.Looting Elektro plus two small towns plus ~80 zombies I kill shouldn't fail to yield me a single can of food or a bandage. RobbL (DayZ) 26 Posted June 18, 2012 As long as realism and enjoyment isn't sacrificed for difficulty I don't careMeaning I do care about superhuman infi-spawn zombies
Molten 0 Posted June 18, 2012 Finding a can of beans on a downed zombie in a pile of flesh was more exiting then finding an SVD in barracks.lol, that's why after getting used to it I prefer starting with no gun now. You are over the moon if you find a pointy stick !But there has to be a limit. Starving to death before you even find a gun is a bit much :) But on the whole having to search instead of falling over stuff is a better experience imo. ThugAim 0 Posted June 18, 2012 This is why they should develop more in depth difficulty levels for servers. The difficulty levels/settings could vary loads of things ranging from strength/amount/eyesight of zombies to things like food scarcity. This way people who like more food and easier zombies can play that way and people who like tactically playing the game like a survival game can play their way.Everyone enjoys the game.Everyone is happy.Less people posting threads like "dis game sucks now, the update ruined it, too hard, too easy, too much, too less, things were different when I first started playing, I'm scared of change." etc.
Jorden 63 Posted June 18, 2012 Look OP, there's a difference between scarce food and water, and having NO food and water.Right now, we have the latter. The only way to get food is zeds.I'm ok with scarce supplies, but there are none to begin with.
kissa3 1 Posted June 18, 2012 Look OP' date=' there's a difference between scarce food and water, and having NO food and water.Right now, we have the latter. The only way to get food is zeds.I'm ok with scarce supplies, but there are none to begin with.[/quote']Did i mention that we are not hardcore players who are stocked on stuff and weapons. We all started fresh on the shore and our group consists of players of varying skill levels.I am not suggesting for it to stay where it is now. The point was that this extreme we experienced with this hotfix opened the way for improvement. It opened the door for the topic that has not been discussed as much but is as vital, if not more. BL1P 252 Posted June 18, 2012 I agree with op it would be interesting to test the playability of less food, water, coke and pepsi etcetc...in the dayz world.Infact take it even further make military items only spawn every 4-6 hrs

velan 0 Posted June 18, 2012 Played the game since the 1.7.1.1 patch, havent found a single can of food or water. A SINGLE one. Found so many weapons, bandages and other stuff... oh, I could've gotten an army of Watches if they actually could do something. But there is no point in finding weapons, if you will die due to starvation/dehydration anyways. And yeah, I scavanged in Elektro/Chern and atleast 3-4 other smaller towns aswell. No, food or water, at all.
