kenfoster-kf@hotmail.com 0 Posted February 23, 2013 Hey guys, I'm new to the DayZ Forums (not the game), and am considering renting a server.I've found a place to rent them from, so that's fine. I'm just unsure as to what the difference is betweena normal server and a private hive? A private hive definitely seems the way to go, but I'm not sure if it runs off of my computer (?) or something else, just curious 'cause "Private" got me thinking...Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Gynsu. SmashT 10907 Posted February 23, 2013 (edited) Public Hive servers all connect to one single database run by the dev team, you can move between any public hive servers and your character/location/gear will persist.Private Hive servers connect to their own database, everything you do on that server will remain on that server only, you also have a lot more control over the server so can run custom maps/mods, whitelist, better admin tools etcIf you own/rent a dedicated server and are willing to spend the time setting it up for DayZ you can host it yourself. Most people rent from managed server providers though. Edited February 23, 2013 by smasht_AU
kenfoster-kf@hotmail.com 0 Posted February 23, 2013 Okay, so, say for example; I rent a private hive. I can set it up how I want it, and it won't run from my computer/internet?

I can set it up how I want it, and it won't run from my computer/internet?Correct, if you want to run Dayz from your computer, you gotta have a very very good computer and you can only run it as dedicated, so you would not be able to play and host a server. Most people rent servers from host websites.Hint they ain't coming cheapHere is 1 Dayz server hoster out of my headhttp://www.dayz.st/ Edited February 23, 2013 by TrIpMo
