hempyhustle 8 Posted February 23, 2013 Vanilla every day of the week.DayZ Vanilla ... and I run DayZ Vanilla on both my servers. :)NICE! Have you tried ALL 3? If so why Vanilla over the others?
novogeek 253 Posted February 23, 2013 (edited) I have tried the others ... and although 2017 and DayZ+ have some awesome features that I think make them very good mods ... I find that DayZ Vanilla suits my playing style.I normally have a camp away from civilisation and other survivors, this is the smart choice to me as I am unsure how other survivors will react on any given day and I prefer to keep my own company.I will then do scavenges into the populated areas ... sometimes running up to 14 kms there and back in order to make the run ... to stock up on whatever I am running short of. During these runs I will normally just take a map and a hatchet and maybe some food and drink to get me to the scavenge target.I will normally go hunting for food ... using my trusted CZ550 and stock up on meat products ... because as a loner if I get in to trouble, blood bags are useless. There are some occasions where I will bump in to a survivor and we team up for a little while, helping each other out. Sometimes I will help survivors out who need supplies or medical treatment ... but I never give them weapons. If they find while we are working together, then that is fine. :)Now and again I will go looking for vehicles to repair, but only if I recently destroyed my vehicle or it was lost. Most of the time I will ensure my current vehicle is kept green across the board ... with enough spares in it to repair the critical issues if the need arises.I pretty much play alone and do my best to survive and keep my supplies stocked. I am not a fan of going to airfields for the latest gear (hell I don't even own a pair of NVGs) and I will normally only raid a crash site if I accidentally come across it and then most of the time I will only take ammo that I can use. I have spare weapons at my camp ... but only ones that use common ammo and that I currently play with.So yeah ... DayZ Vanilla suits my style of play, where the other two would kind of change the way I have to approach things and ultimately I am playing DayZ for the entertainment value. I don't like PvP and will always try to avoid any situations like that ... not because I don't know how to shoot or play ... but because I choose not to shoot other players. Zypha 7 Posted February 23, 2013 Without a doubt it's Vanilla. I haven't invested as many hours into any others, though I did have a blast on Origins. Not sure what I think about it yet.
aussiestig 681 Posted February 23, 2013 NICE! Have you tried ALL 3? If so why Vanilla over the others?DayZ + didn't feel that different to me. It was trying to do something, and it kind of didn't do it very well at all. It was very similar to vanilla DayZ, but the things it brought to the table weren't that great. The same goes for 2017, it's kind of the same as DayZ+, but with an older feeling to it. But again, it was trying to go for that 'older' feeling, 5 years down the road, but all they did was change character, vehicle and loot textures. If they made roads look unmaintaned and unused, and crash was really tall, and everything was really dirty, then it would have felt a lot more like 5 years into an apocalypse.Vanilla has it's issues, but it's the game I spent so long playing and loving. Everything about it felt right when I first started playing, but I didn't get that feeling with 2017 and DayZ+
Pokey (DayZ) 103 Posted February 23, 2013 DayZ 2017, to me, is a big pile of steaming dog turd. Really, I think it's that God-Awful.I love DayZ+ and, quite possibly, more than Vanilla. I like having to actually be careful around Zombies, three hits and you're almost downed. I also like how American weapons are as rare as any other Crash-Site weapons. I also really enjoy the AK variants it offers. Hopefully they'll incorporate some fixes from 1.7.5 soon, such as flipping ATV's over, and I'll be a happy Zombie hunter.

BwobBwub 660 Posted February 23, 2013 No Chocolate? Well, I guess vanilla will have to do then.
unkillable94 149 Posted February 23, 2013 I'll go with vanilla any day, + and 2017 are okay but the classic is good on its own.
eviljezza (DayZ) 39 Posted February 23, 2013 I'm enjoying vanilla the most, though Day44 looks interesting. (For those who don't know it's DayZ in 1944 http://day44.com/ )
dgeesio 1034 Posted February 23, 2013 vanilla but taviana and namslk are better than chern.
khaenz 93 Posted February 23, 2013 Well, I liked 2017 the most, gave me the best playing experience ive had, but its a bit too short... basically we met with a guy on the shore, and had some very nice combat situations with zombies together, and then we went north, where he got killed by an enfield, but we escaped and survived. Then we find a car in the middle of a road, out of fuel. We refuel it, and find another car, and proceed north. Since we had all weapons that are available in the mod and so on, we decided to call it Endgame, and stopped playing. But up there is a summary of our adventure, with a lot of small firefights and such left out.2017 is amazing, just too short. It seems to remove more than it adds.

I heard the bandits are toned down in 2017 because it is sooo importasnt to trade in that game, IDK just what I have heard.--------------But i am definately leaning toward a DayZ+ & DayZ Vanilla Servers for my members to use. But I can still be swayed from Vanilla to 2017, would like to hear more about it from PLAYERS who KNOW!

iegle 117 Posted February 23, 2013 I enjoy 2017 the most. It is not perfect (you get sick of empty tin cans fast), but I find that stripping the mil-spec weapons out of the game makes for a more "realistic"* experience. I have found that the desperate need for survival reduces the douchbaggery. You still get people killing others on sight, but it is for the sake of precious resources rather than just because they are pricks who enjoy trying to ruin another's day. I typically play as a medic / king carebear, and this mod generates ample opportunities to help others out.* I use "realistic" cautiously here becuause I acknowedge that there are some who hold to the position that military weaponry would be common in a post-apocalyptic militarized Eastern European country such as Chernarus. I see this point, but I still find that NVGs and LMGs are a bit of a stretch for me.

I want so much to hear good things on 2017 I really like the idea and think a server hosting this would be great. Just have been worried it could get boring with not much loot.I to play more of a hero type then bandit, but DEFINITELY not a carebear. I am looking for like minded players to hook up with man. You can click my signature link to view my DayZ group & idea. But group is tiny 3 members currently.

(For those who don't know it's DayZ in 1944 http://day44.com/ )This looks great, if only for the reason it has M1Garands and Thompsons. Dear sweet jebus, I love those two weapons.
Cap'n (DayZ) 1827 Posted February 23, 2013 DayZ +. I just enjoy that zombies are more dangerous, and that we aren't tripping over NATO weapons at every military base. I've actually enjoyed some of the new AK variants, and have been training with them in ARMA editor in case I do run into PvP. Vanilla is actually an equal to +, as its pretty much the same thing but with wimpier zombies and more...ugh...NATO weapons. I don't like 2017. At all. I call bull to the whole "three weapons in the entire game" crap, and I don't think the world would be in that much of a shitpile in five freaking years. Twenty? Maybe, but thats still a stretch. But I like that survival has been emphasized over the other two, but it gets boring fast.
rn_max 202 Posted February 23, 2013 I want to continue following and testing vanilla as it develops, because that is the point of an alpha/beta. However, recent experiences aren't helping. After rteutrning from a two week visit to a vanilla private hive, which had vehicles actually spawning again and variety of loot, going back to a public server has been quite a disppointment. Run With Flares Simulator still seems to be the end result. That being said, whatever version of DayZ, I won't set foot on any server that has 500 vehicles, 20 helicopters, military weapons everywhere or extra starting kit. What's the fecking point? The whole idea of DayZ is the challenge of scavenging to survive, not some toy littered zombie theme park!
