Get a grip, Zombies!

I think zombies should be able to grab hold of you, and you have to bash/bludgeon/shoot them to get them to let go, this way you could get into trouble quickly if a couple of them get a hold of you and more come charging in, a bit more like traditional zombies. Maybe this could be combined with a reduction in zombie speed if they become too difficult.

Thoughts?

But they need overall speed reduction, view range reduction, reach reduction (i was punched by zombies standing 3-5 meters away a milion times)

Also i think its retarted how they give you open wounds and you start bleeding only by punching you???

They are only humans after all, they dont have claws or weapons, so that should be removed too.

Also would be nice to have servers with difrent zombie difilcuties, from non agresive zombies for noobs like me who hate them, to hardcore ones for al you sado-mazo players out there?

I am fairly sure that zeds are more into flailing and biting than holding and grabbing. They should be able to hold you down if you fall over and tackle for sure but holding seems kinda complicated

We'll see in the near future what they have in store for zombie animations :]

The fast zombies is a feature they will keep. It's what makes them so intimidating. View range is affected by the weather and time of day as well as your own actions. The reach is caused by lag, will be fixed in SA. About the wounds... people can claw open wounds. Scratching and biting will easily cause bleeding if you put enough force into it. Have you ever met a human before? Man they got those razor like scooping claws and somewhat sharp teeth D:

I was thinking something similar. The problem is that the application of it is difficult to get right. One way I see it going would be a QTE where you have to shoot them before you take damage, this would be completely immersion breaking and out of keeping with DayZ's design. The second way would be for the zeds and players to have some kind of prerendered animation but this would be hard to make to look convincing; the zombies would end up attacking you ambiguously way and you would be unable to move.

I think perhaps the best way to implement something like this is instead of them being able to grab you, give them the ability to trip you up or knock you to the floor (falling on your arse,side or back). This slows you down and forces you to deal with the attacking zed but avoids the design issues that come with a grabbing mechanic.

Nobody needs more empty quick-time-button-mashing effects in games. It's a pathetic gimmick, and needs to be obliterated from the gaming industry.

(I know you pointed out shooting, but if something like this was implemented it would more than likely be a QTE/Mindless-button-mashing affair. No thanks)

Dunno, most zombies are into biting more than punching you in most zombie based media.

Nobody needs more empty quick-time-button-mashing effects in games. It's a pathetic gimmick, and needs to be obliterated from the gaming industry.

(I know you pointed out shooting, but if something like this was implemented it would more than likely be a QTE/Mindless-button-mashing affair. No thanks)

Not suggesting as a QTE mechanic, but where if a zombie grabs you, your movement speed is reduced and you need to kill it before more come.

Let's put it this way. Over the next few days maybe even next week, the Day Z team will have finished motion capturing the Zombie moves. They'd have to rerent out an entire set just to complete this suggestion, or get their animators to do it, which would take a while either way.

Point here is, I doubt they're considering this kind of change at least for the moment so don't expect complex zombie interaction on first release.

That said, I do like the idea, but I feel it should be kept for a zombie class in their own (a grabber for instance) This would be quite a frightening experience, I like that :)
