Connecting to Servers - Open Field?

When i finally find a server that i can get into, I spawn in the middle of an open field with a large amount of character models just standing around. I can move around, and access every feature, but theres no buildings, people, or terrain anywhere. I've followed numerous video tutorials, and have all the files in the right spot and everything. There just has to be something Im doing wrong. Any help is good help. Just dont wanna feel like I wasted 30$ on this for nothing :/

It's called the debug forest, respawn or try running east for like 2km

Quite a few threads on this... look at the "wilderness" thread; seems to be a symptom of not having the latest Arma2 Beta Client (now a requirement - http://dayzwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=How_to_install_DayZ#ARMA2_Beta_patch) AND/OR joining an incorrect versionned server.

If you've got kit you want to keep you'll need to get on a server version 1.7.0 (e.g. canada 2) which gets you to the debug forest which is 2KM west of the map. A PITA for sure.
