Dreams_Of_Cheese (DayZ) 71 Posted February 20, 2013 [NEW] - Crossbow Quiver added - 6 arrow mag size. This is awesome. The crossbow might not have to be a paperweight anymore! I just hope they improve the sights on it though. No use if I cant hit anything with it! :P

Sutinen 635 Posted February 20, 2013 (edited) Steel bolts replaced by wooden arrows? Seriously, what the fuck are they thinking when they make these changes? "Oh yeah, we only had the zombie talk range at 200 meters, so we lowered it to 120 meters" :facepalm:You know, you could make craftable wooden arrows and then lootable steel bolts. Dreams_Of_Cheese (DayZ) 71 Posted February 21, 2013 Prolly soon. They seem to have it all planned out.
thederper121 95 Posted February 21, 2013 I'm going to be completely honest and say,Woodenarrows are more realistic, as in the players make them. Because really, why the hell would people throw steel bolts at the wall and land in piles when a zombie apocalypse comes? Think of it as this: Instead of looting them from a pile, think of it as crafting it yourself.Seewhatimean?(Although, I think steel bolts should be able to be found in lootable houses near the woods and in some military camps.) IRL modern crossbow bolts are made of metal alloys or carbon fiber. The same goes for any compound bow's arrow. The reason why is structural: a wood made bolt/arrow would splinter and break immediately (possibly wounding the shooter) on launch._Anubis_ Edited February 21, 2013 by _Anubis_

Kentarion 0 Posted February 21, 2013 well talking about crafting: bow and arrow is easy to make in RL - of course it wouldn't be as straight and damaging as a bolt from a crossbow - but its something - and its silent and easy to make, you'll need just some knife and some kinda rope for the string.crafting things in apocalyptic settings reminds me of "burn time" - anyone remember this old stuff? Easy_Tiger (DayZ) 33 Posted February 21, 2013 (edited) http://dayzmod.com/f...s/#entry1192839Most excellent.Indeed, it would be uber excellent if you could make your own i.e Harvest wood with hatchet & combine with hunting knife to make arrows. Even utilise empty tins to make a arrow head? :D Edited February 21, 2013 by Easy_Tiger

Right.Too bad it wouldn't even punch trough your skin.ah... lol. i guess the human history disagrees with you ;) - no offense.but of course the damage of a self made bow and arrow should be small and the handling very bad.the bow was historic more of an artillery weapon and not for 'sniping'i guess because of the hard to implement physics off drawing and loosing a bow - we wont see it in dayz sa :)

I know there are some medieval weapon experts who can make a good quality bow out of wood, but they take time and use good strings for their bows. charley-taylor@hotmail.co.uk 39 Posted February 21, 2013 Very good ideas especially the tin can piece for arrow head, lets hope dayz SA has some great crafting recipes, i would prefer crafting my own bow and arrows i would feel more accomplished when killing zombies. cinder 5 Posted February 21, 2013 They are easy to make from basic stuff... Right.Too bad it wouldn't even punch trough your skin.It would (ought to) punch thru zombie heads. Give scrabble-ass-poor survivors a means for the bare minimum: killing zombies for the price of relatively basic level of combat proficiency (stealth, position, aim etc).hard to implement physics off drawing and loosing a bow - we wont see it in dayz sa :)Have you played Mount & Blade?

cinder 5 Posted February 22, 2013 I meant that M&B seems to model bows' pull & release well enough. The wooden bolts update doesn't sound good to me. It's as if every other weapon had unreliable homemade ammo, or wore out with use. Maybe the intended dynamic to accomodate quivers (more ammo in players' inventory) makes this change unavoidable... but it's still really corny.
