Idea to make tanks and aircraft harder to use

OK: So since you are a civilian in DayZ why would you be able to just jump inside a helicopter/tank/plane and just fly/drive it like a well trained army guy? There should be something like a manual or handbook for each vehicle, but only the bigger and more dangerous ones. (Helis/Tanks/Planes/Military Planes) You would find the aircraft manuals at Airports and airfields or military camps etc, and the armoured vehicles at military camps aswell. It would work like any other consumable item, disappearing from you inventory when you use it and you will get a notification saying: 'You have learned how to pilot a plane/helicopter/armoured vehicle

I wouldn't be too worried about the authenticity not being a major focus of game design. Rocket himself stated in an interview that I watched a while ago that he might consider taking the mechanics out of another Bohemia Interactive title: "Take on Helicopters", and use those for the helicopters in game. Essentially Dayz is hopefully going to be a mix of survival-, helicopter-, car-, and airplane simulators.

Do you mean that Rocket wants to make piloting helicopters more like in a simulator? Which means you have to know a lot about piloting helicopters IRL to fly them ingame?

that would be awesome!

no more "oh, a heli! ... W is going forward, A is going left... auto hover! great!" but more "oh, a heli! ... W is..." KABLAM!!

please make driving cars just like IRL too. I'd love to see some unlicensed drivers creeping around in the first gear because they don't know how to use the clutch.

That wasn't my point. I was simply saying that all the vehicles that will be included should in my opinion be realistic (not necessarily difficult though that usually follows) in how they are operated.

Even just adding manual gearboxes would be QQ fuel for most. :lol:

The more thought required, the better.

YES, vehicles should give you an advantage. But their operation definitely shouldn't be simple.

EDIT:

Handbooks? No.

More in-depth functionality. Definitely.

The beuty of finding a heli is bieng able to fly it, lets not make fixing a heli the easy part.

I guess there will be some added functionality (as put by Chabowski) because Rocket said a while back that if you were not good at something in real life then you would not be good at it in DayZ. This may not be in the foundation release though and in future builds.

The LAST thng Rocket wants in this game is the type of artificial gameplay you suggest. His idea of making tanks and helos "harder" is to actually make them take real skill to fly/drive. As in, "practice". Even with the ArmA 2 base controls, helos are marginally more difficult to use than in most non-flight-simulator games, like Battlefield 3. And I applaud that.

But reports indicate that yes, Take On Helicopters will most likely be the basis for helicopter physics and controls in DayZ SA.
