FPS Issues (Come Post Your Specs)

Recommended Posts

I have seen several threads due to bad FPS with good hardware. I think it would be a good idea for everyone suffering from these issues to post their PC specs so people with some great knowledge on how the game works can comment on whether it is indeed your hardware or its a setting you have set in the game or its just the mod itself not being optimized. I would like some feedback from the community before I go out and spend money on my rig only to find out that I still suffer from bad FPS.

So list the following:

PC Specs

PLEASE POST THESE TO PASTEBIN.COM AND INCLUDE THE LINK IN YOUR POST. BETTER FOR ORGANIZATION!

I believe this should be enough information for others to comment on.

I think you should have to add your CPU LOAD and GPU LOAD in there too. That information is very important. Use MSI Afterburner (free) and the windows taskbar to monitor these.

PC Specs

CPU: i5 2500k @ 4.5 Ghz

Motherboard: Gigabyte P67X-UD3-B3

RAM: 16GB Patriot G2

Graphics Card: GTX 560 (Two in SLI)

CPU Load: 48% Typically, 39% Typically in big cities (FPS drop)

GPU Load: 55% Typically, up to 90% in forests. 28% Typically in big cities (FPS drop). NOTE: BOTH GPU'S have same load.

Ingame Settings

Texture detail: medium

Video memory: default

Anistropic Filtering: normal

Antialiasing: off (FXAA forced in config)

Terrain Detail: normal

Object Detail: normal

Shadow Detail: very high

HDR Quality: very high

Postprocessing Affects: disabled

Interface Size: very small

Aspect Ratio: 16:9 (1920x1080)

3D Resolution: 1920x1080 (100%)

VSync: On (off if performance is poor in build/server)

FPS

Highest FPS: 60 (vsync off 85)

Lowest FPS: 24

Average: Too binary to give an average. 60 in the countryside, 30 in big cities (1.7.1.1)

CFG Files (Optional, altho the more the better)

Default except for the beta patch enabled FXAA to be forced on (works with post-processing off!)

FXAA is a much more efficient shader based anti-aliasing routine based on DirectX

Gorgenzola

It's been said that putting your settings on High/Very High will put more load on your GPU rather than your CPU. Have you given this a try?

I would assume this works for shadows and video memory settings only. Terrain detail should only be maximum decals/objects, and texture detail is only the resolution of the textures being called directly from the GPU memory. Since my GPU load is already quite high during gameplay I figured I already had ideal settings. I will test futher by putting terrain detail, object detail and texture detail on very high tonight and compare performance and GPU/CPU loads.

I am hitting spikes of 96% GPU load on my SLI cards in thick forests already though.

Some of the issues with FPS are server side. I can join a server and spawn in the middle of the woods with 7fps, and when I disconnect and join another I get 50. Servers that have not been restarted for a while have horrible fps in my experience.

Also this game seems to be very CPU dependent. I've had my i7 920 at stock speeds (2.4GHz) for a while... I overclocked it to 3.33GHz today just to see what difference it would make. Running around in Cherno like an idiot at 1920x1200 I get around 35 fps where I'd get around 20 before. In the wilderness I'd get 60fps where'd I'd have got 45 before.

i7 920

6GB RAM

AMD 6970

160GB SSD

nice I will put some work into overclocking mine, even tho I dont have a proper heat sink fan for overclock and I think my RAM is lacking which also is why I dont get good FPS. So can we get some acknowledgement from a "dev" that this is a known issue that the servers are causing the FPS issue and is the DayZ code itself or just the hardware the server is using.

Fps issues for this Mod have nothing to do with you PC specs.

I have joined many servers over the course of 2 months running all versions of the Mod/Beta Patch/whatever, and there has always been different rates of fps, my PC stayed the same throughout, I didn't change a single component, and this happens to everybody regardless of hardware, so this thread is totally pointless I'm afraid. 1.7.1: 20-25fps, 1.7.1: 0.2-10fps, 1.7.1.1: 13-16fps, see, nothing to do with my PC at all.

Not sure if its related to the problems other people are having, but any FPS issues I've had seem to relate to the server I'm connected to.

Some are fast and smooth and it runs great.

Some are crap from the start, or start to slow down over time.

I'm noticing more servers with M'sOTD that say something like "This server restarts every X hours"

For the record, I got everything set to very high except AA is off as is post-process effects.

Win7 Ult 64

Quad core black-edition AMD chip

4 gigs RAM

AMD 6950

FPS = enough to be fluid and smooth when running well, choppy and hard to move when bad.

CPU: AMD FX 8120 8-Core Processor, Black Edition

Motherboard: Sabretooth 990fx

RAM: 4GB

Graphics Card: Sapphire HD 6950

--------------------------------------------

Every single one of my in-game video options can be shot to the max while playing ARMA 2 Normally, or while playing any other mod and I have no problems what so ever, and a steady FPS of 40-50

However, when I play DayZ, since the new update, on any level of settings, I get 5-10 FPS.
