Rott (DayZ) 218 Posted February 13, 2013 I enter from the south side, north of the red topped barn ... leads right into the south barracks ... loot the barracks then hide in the chute between wall and non enter-able barracks... it gives you cover from all sides... if someone wants to get you they have to approach you head on... probably best to loot when server pop is low...
herrjon 478 Posted February 13, 2013 I find it's fairly easy to just pop into the south barracks area without too much trouble, just hide in a tree nearby it, see if you're spawning zeds or not and look in the windows, in and out. North barracks are a bit more tricky, but come in from the north through the forest and tree hop until you get a good view of the barracks and scope out as usual. If you insist on doing the firehouse after that, go back into the forest and repeat the same tactic. The point is, never go out on the runway. Stay in the forest as much as possible and keep your eyes open. I don't recommend even looking in the ATC tower or the hangers unless you're absolutely sure you're alone. When you loot them, you're far too exposed and in danger of both players and zeds. As far as day/night, if you have NVG's, night is ideal, if not, better off when the sun is up and you can see if players are lurking around. Just try to do it when the pop is as low as possible if you aren't looking for a fight or a bullet in your head.
Saethkept 134 Posted February 13, 2013 (edited) One key to surviving a trip around the NW Airfield is to always avoid long, open lines of sight - especially any area that is visible from an elevated position. Like Rott I sometimes approach from the south, or from the wooded region in the north. Essentially, I tend to skirt the outer wall at a crouch, while constanly looking left and right. Using the wall as cover, one can at least avoid enemy fire from within the airfield itself and there are lots of trees running parallel to the perimeter wall that privide a degree of protection from enemies aproaching the airfield from without. As with an approach to any loot region, make sure you "read" the signs from a distance with binos or a weapon scope before making the decision to go in.As for the eastern side of the NW airfield ... you just have to take your chances. Once out on to the tarmac and either inside the firehouse or the control tower, you become a target for bandits, server hoppers, etc. and anyone else with eyes on looking for signs of your presence. Approaching uphill through the forest from the east about toward the center of the eastern side of the airfield there is some nice small hill terrain that will hide you from the control tower sniping position and firehouse upper windows. The risk remains high regardless so one must weigh greed over survival when going there solo. And of course, going to NW on a high pop server, or with bandits or braggarts running off at the mouth in side chat is a really bad idea. My "mountain wraith" play style allows for visiting such locations only at night, with a cloudy sky and pouring rain. Even then I often get too paranoid and bug out before looting a single item. All up to the risk your willing to take. Edited February 14, 2013 by Saethkept

herrjon 478 Posted February 13, 2013 The little bird typically spawns at NE Airstrip, but that whole area (NEAS, Krasnostav, Berezino) is usually pretty quiet and spawns some good residential and industrial stuff for low risk, with scattered military. Anything good in NE airfield?the best gun in the game only spawns in the two barracks... M4 CCO SDsorry i reread ... North East Air Field is good for the big back pack and GPS ... the camo UAZ also spawns next to the wall fence... Dayzdb.com will list what spans and the percentage of said spawn. Shakis 33 Posted February 13, 2013 Stick to the trees and hug the walls... Do not run out in the open.Night would be best if you can see well with your brightness and gamma up full... another tip that helps with that is make sure you have "HDR Quality" set to High in your graphics options and that will make it easier to see. HMS 115 Posted February 13, 2013 Good luck Kaspa, with what everyone else basically said.Only thing I will add is that the entire area is huge. Plan on taking a while to get there, and taking a while to get from one end to the other. And if you are trying to be stealthy, it will take even longer. The only real downside is that if someone else is already there, two things are guaranteed: 1) They already got the good stuff, and 2) They will kill you with it.May as well leave.
