Fordo77 0 Posted June 18, 2012 I absolutely love the DayZ ambient music and sounds, and was wondering if there is any way I can extract them from the game files for use elsewhere (just for personal use). Thanks!
Mr.Waterblu 0 Posted June 26, 2012 Same here, very atmospheric. These ingame sounds actually remind me of Stalker film soundtrack which was absolutely amazing.
RpTheHotrod 1 Posted June 26, 2012 Awhile back I offered to do further ambient music for the game, but the author never responded, sadly. It'd be fun making ambient atmosphere for the mod.Working on this one for a Starcraft custom map author currently:http://soundcloud.com/rpthehotrod/awaymission2
critical 11 Posted June 26, 2012 Wtf? You kidding?! That ambient sound that resembles the sound of somebody jumping over a mesh fence gave me more scares than the actual zombies or players. T.T
RpTheHotrod 1 Posted June 26, 2012 Agreed there. Ingame sounds in ambiance just is not a good idea. Every time I hear that fence I quickly turn around looking.
athrins 39 Posted June 26, 2012 I have to say I don't like random branches breaking or the mesh fence jumping mentioned above because it's misleading. It doesn't make any sense. If there was an animal breaking a branch that'd be fine, but when it happens randomly it only serves to make you less likely to pick up on the actual sounds of players. I remember clearly once when I was in a building on the second floor (was an apartment) I heard something like a metal footstep which I disregarded as ambiance, only to get shot in the face further down the stairs on my way out. It was in the middle of the night. If all noises in the game had actual causes, it would be a lot more intense. A branch breaks? Better hope it's a clumsy bunny and not a sociopath stalking you. RpTheHotrod 1 Posted June 26, 2012 Ambient music making 101 is to never have any sounds that is in the game, or would appear to come from the game, to ever show up in your music. As a music maker, I can go onto a lot of creative branches, but you have to also remember to keep in mind how the music is going to be used and where it will be used at. I hate when I'm driving down the road listening to music when I suddenly hear a police siren only to realize it's a part of the song. That kind of stuff can make someone slow down suddenly and potentially cause an accident. In this game, it can cause you to suddenly move to check behind you which could give your position away to a bandit (movement against the terrain), or to disregard certain sounds only to find out it really was a bandit. wolfstriked 143 Posted June 26, 2012 When ever I hear sounds and I look around I wonder if I even heard them.Think of it as paranoia.

Gibbonici 9 Posted June 26, 2012 I usually turn the music off in games because it gets irritating, but yeah, the music in DayZ is just awesome and is totally part of the feel of the game. Still play with it on, and even don't mind those ambiguous sounds that may or may not be someone or something creeping up on me. I'd be jumping at all sounds, real and imagined, in a real zombie apocalypse.
