Just Starting Out

Hello everyone, I'm new here and new to Arma I've been following DayZ for sometime now and finally started downloading Arma II Plus Expansion, I was just wondering, what is the best, most efficient and safest way to download the mod. I see the two methods on the site so I assume 2 of them are safe but is there anything I should know before installing.

PS I'm using a Steam cliented Arma

www.dayzcommander.com Its easy, and make's the update's easy too. make sure you run both versions of arma 2 before downloading.

Just run it once or twice, you don't need to play.

Run both Arma 2 and Operation Arrowhead to main menu and exit straight away. No need to actually play either game.

Then fire up DayZCommander, go to 'Install/Update', update Arma 2 and install the latest DayZ mod version. Double click a server and play. Happy times.

Another question, I have Arma 2 Dedicated server and Arma 2 CO Dedicated Server in my steam list.

What does this mean I have the ability to join a ded server or create one?

And does creating a ded server require money or a host computer or is it buying/ reserving a offsite ded server?

I'm sure there are sites that allow you to host one, as well as you can run it on your own pc. I haven't looked into it much but PM me if you need more help.

You should consider updating that original post (from july), namely the following:

HUD/debug screen is no longer an autopopup, have to press scoll lock.

I'd also recommend (http://db.dayzwiki.com/map/chernarus) as the newer map, just because it has more of a 'satellite/overhead' feel versus an actual map that can cause some confusion in translating.

Backpacks are now updated, a more complete list can be found at here (https://github.com/R4Z0R49/DayZMod/wiki/Backpacks).

Updated screenshots for the HUD would be helpful, too (temp gauge is now color-based, etc etc).

I would also include a notation about spawn chances (esp for military drops--most of the things you cited are astronomically low spawn chances [~0.5%])

As someone that used your post way back when, I feel that it could use a bit of updating to retain some of its shine.
