Anyways I can improve game play with these specs?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys just had a simple question if my computer specs is good enough to play DayZ w/o the

crazy frame droppage I've always experienced from Day 1 of playing.

Computer specs:

i3-2120 dual core 3.3 ghz

8gb Ram

Colorful Nvidia Geforce Gtx 550 ti 1gb of video memory

Ok so there are so many ways to approach this problem, but the thing is do I at least need a

quad-core and up to play this? I've tried everything, well almost everything to tweak Arma 2's

settings so I can play DayZ smoothly.

I've tried the following:

1.)Going under Arma 2 files and changed the gpu_frames ahead to 1, PPAA to 1, PPAA_level to 1, and Atoc to 6

2.)Updating my driver

3.)Using ramdisk virtual ssd drive

4.)Forcing directx9 option in Dayzcommander

5.)Under task manager set Arma 2's priority to high

So guys if you guys think I need a quad core processor to play dayz smoothly or if there is another way

to tweak the settings so I can enjoy DayZ, if you can reply that'll be much appreciated!

I know ArmA 2 has always been an CPU intensive simulator, so that would be the thing I'd pay attention to. I get good frame rates out of my i5 650 but I am looking to upgrade that myself.

Set v-sync to off in-game?

Turn off anti-alising?

Turn off post-processing?

Set the video memory to default?

If all this doesn't help, get a quad-core CPU, because my laptop is running ArmA II on 25+ FPS (pretty playable) with an i3-2330M @ 2.20GHz.

I imagine its more the speed of a processor that would help in Arma, not necessarily the number of cores. 3ghz+ should suffice.. Dual or Quad.

I would say the issue you have is the issue we all have, Arma 2's engine is widely accused of being poorly optimized, no matter what PC your playing it on. I dare bet no one has an entirely smooth DayZ experience.

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=125630612 <---- I took my in-game video settings snapshot through steam.

Oh and yeah I hear the Arma 2 engine is quite old, now sure how old but Im sure there are problems with the game's engine itself along

with zombies spawing causing huge frames to drop. I get like 60fps then drops to like 15 in city at times. Never steady :(

The shadow quality also causes FPS drops (depending on your GPU, yours is pretty good). You can also make your textures look better, because they don't really change your frame rates.

30-40 FPS (from your screenshot) is really playable, I think you can get used to it really quick as I got used to 25 FPS.
