Never fire a shot unless your pinned down by zeds(dont run into buildings with one entrance/exit). Dont trust anyone shoot all players in the face unless your in teamspeak with them.

The controls in Arma2 you have to get used to. I would say take the time and do the practices in Arma2.

From moving, shooting, cars and choppers you can all learn there before ...

Never use voice over sidechat. I will hunt you down and murder you (in-game!) myself.

Or turn off VON in options so you don't have to listen to it :P

Still lets you use direct chat as normal.

But yeah messing around in regular ARMA a bit first is good advice.

Some points.

  • You will die. Don't be disheartened by this fact.
  • Major cities, on busy servers, are hotspots for PVP, and they especially like shooting freshly spawned players.
  • Utilize a map, if you don't find one in game use an external map.
  • Knowing your location, and what direction you're heading in (NSEW) is very important, learn that stuff.
  • Patience is a virtue, and a skill that will save your life. Take it slow in cities and try not to attract attention (zoms and players)
  • Always look around you as you move (left Alt)
  • Learn which areas give you loot, and what kind of loot. Be cautious around high value areas like fire-stations and military areas.

Essential gear to locate!

  • Morphine: Heals broken limbs. Always have at least one vial on you at all times.
  • Bandages: Stops bleeding. Always have at least four on your.
  • Painkillers: Not as essential as the above, but still good to have. Removes the pain status (shaking, makes aiming a nightmare)
  • Hatchet: The humble hatchet. Cuts wood, cuts zombies, cuts players. A silent weapon that is essential, using this takes practice, but learn it

After those pieces of gear, you're pretty much set as you have all the essentials. A few very handy items you'll want to find are as follows.

  • Compass
  • Map
  • Hunting Knife
  • Matches (along with your hatchet/Hunting Knife, this allows you to cook raw meat which heals lots of blood and grants some freedom in the wild as you won't have to worry about food).

Basics, really. Weapons aren't a big deal when you first start. Take it slow, it's a steep learning curve. Don't get mad, and it'll all be fine.

And, most importantly, have fun!

Hey!

Welcome to Dayz. You've got an interesting journey ahead of you haha... lot's of highs and lows in this game.

I've been playing for about 3 months now and have 'paid my dues' so to speak. I can honestly say iot's the best game i'vbe ever played.

Anyway, best tips for starting out would be to head into the major cities first to raid supermarkets and residential (preferably high value ones) to find food, water and hopefullty a map and/or compass.

Then head north, thats where all the good military gear is.

I should also mention that we just started a server, very noob vriendly, so you are welcome to join us.

We are just sytarting out, so the first 50 people get a weapon of their choice and a fiull loadout (NVGs, Backpack etc)

Add one of us admins on skype to claim your loadout:
