Proposal to change signature limitations.

Currently, a signature allows you only one image with a height of 800x150, and a total of 2 urls.

I'd like to suggest we change it to:

- Up to 3 images with a height and combined width(stacked horizontally)/width and combined height(stacked vertically) of 800x150.

- 1 text url + 1 url for each image in your signature.

Why?

It's known that there are many users on the forums that have things such as a YouTube account, Facebook, Twitter, etc. However, with only 1 image and two urls, they could only link people to two of them, and only one can be on an embedded image.

With this, people have more flexibility with their signatures (I messed up and did 850 instead of 800, pretend they are 800 wide goddamnit):

(3 images, with a width of 800 and a height of 50, adding up to 800x150)

This takes up exactly the same amount of room, but displays 3 different images. This next example is my signature from another forum (Which has rules similar to what I suggested)

(3 images, with 3 different links, with a combined width of 481, and a height of 150, which is well within the limit)

As you can see, this allows me to advertise my Twitter account, my YouTube channel, and my home community, and it took up less space than I'd normally be limited.

It gives users a little more freedom with their signature whilst maintaining a clean structure and practical inability to be exploited.

I appreciate that people have more to advertise, and this is a perfectly sensible idea.

But honestly, I removed the gif from my own sig because I find the images ever so slightly distracting. Especially while trying to decipher a wall of text.

No, not going to happen.

If you were here in the begining there was a time when signatures were unlimited, then disabled, now todays limit is a happy medium found after much internal debate.

An unlimited signature is drastically different, and a crazy idea. I'm simply suggesting to allow us to put 1 or 2 more urls, and split up the image instead of having one big one.

You can turn off people's signatures if they bother you, either manually as you see them or automatically from the settings.

I think the way it is now is a pretty good limit. Some forums I visit are a mess of dancing GIFS and massive sigs. I kow you can turn them off but then that defeats the object of letting people have sigs at all.

I honestly think the space we have now is more than enough to advertise what ever you need to without it becoming an assault on the senses. Just my thoughts.

Ya, I noticed there's a little X in the corner. I do like to see the banter though, I'm sure I'll live.

Some of the sigs round here are proper class. It'd be a shame to "ignore" them.

I think mine was just too animated and obnoxious for my own liking.

You can't put multiple links to it, however. A YouTube logo on its own doesn't allow me to link others to my channel, or otherwise display it. I could only link one of the three, and clicking the other two would link back to the third one, which makes no sense.

Again, I don't see how a massive signature is possible. The exact same limitations are in place, they are just filled with 3 different images. They all occupy the same amount (or even less) space. I'm not asking for more space, I'm asking to be able to put more things in that same space.

I didn't even know you could have gifs in your signature. Perhaps a limit so that only one of the images may be a gif?

Actually soz mate, I just re-read your original post and now I understand it better. You're right, if you can only have one link ATM then it'd be nice to have more flexibility. I forget because we have no restrictions as mods on our sigs although I've never tried more than one link. I wonder if there;s a technical reason why it can't be done?

Although I'll ask Matt or Griff tomorrow about getting you and Amber sorted with proper profiles. Unless he's mentioned anything to you about it, maybe they want to wait until SA. If you get your Community Support thing now, you'll get hammered with questions about public servers.:/

I get them anyway. I'm fine with it. If there's anything I can't handle, I'll just tell them to file a support ticket and someone capable of answering can help.
