bilbey 17 Posted February 6, 2013 Hey.A lot of players have a shoot on sight reaction, as I have learned. This could be because they are actively choosing to become a bandit, or just because they are on high alert. This happens quite often and as the title of this topic suggests, I was wondering if there could be a way of easily showing that you're a friendly. The hero costume obviously does this to a certain extent, but factors like its similarity to a normal survivor costume (especially at a distance) and encounters with new players can cause an unwanted gun fight. Not to mention it isn't the easiest thing to get your hands on. Attempting to use a mic to declare your intentions has a dis-advantage, mainly because of the time delay (a lot can happen within a second) and you generally have to actively see a player first before feeling the need to use the mic.Obviously it (whatever it could be) would have to be unlocked through humanity, or have it unlocked at the start at humanity 0. Maybe, something like a player voice saying "friendly", audible to unnoticed players within a certain radius? Maybe it could be a high-vis jacket (advantage because of the friendly status it advertises, dis-advantage because of its high visibility) stored in the tool belt? It's just a thought for survivors. Bandits would benefit from easier targets and the evil satisfaction from killing a friendly player haha. bad/good idea?

Whiskey_Tango (DayZ) 23 Posted February 6, 2013 This is a hard question. Maybe color coordinate hats or clothes so that Hero skins aren't as similar to a regular skin? From what we already have, I lower my weapon and use the mic. It is the best chance I have seen so far to declare your intentions. If you are being attacked by a player who has it in his mind that you are his next mark.. your best chance is to draw your gun faster and hope you don't miss. :PMaybe they should add specific emotes, like lowering your weapon or kneeling, etc. to show friendly submission?
SP45M 240 Posted February 6, 2013 Its easy to tell who is friendly, they are in your teamspeak, all others are fodder.

joe_mcentire 2074 Posted February 6, 2013 i think the perma-identity idea is as good as it gets. as in real life, you can't be sure; nice and honorable persons can be serial killers (and vice versa :D) you'll have to avoid ppl if you want to be on the safe side. any mechanism which intervenes more than perma-identity may be a real atmosphere-breaker

I don't think it would effect it too much. Only if wearing the high-vis jacket became a common occurence would it take the edge off going into a city. Thats what i think anyways. This topic is on here because im always trying to help but i usually get shot at haha!
