ZlobaRUS54 441 Posted February 6, 2013 Hello thereOne cannot successfully and realistically replicate effects or indeed the after effects of drugs/drink/smoke/etc in a computer game and one should not attempt to do so IMHO.Just give us cigs. (I almost said fags, but I know what you lot are like)Rgds'LoKPlenty of games do it, heck Fallout had rad and mentats addiction modeled. Max Payne and even DNF have them. It's a shame if a game that shines in survival jenre falls short.
slivniku@gmail.com 93 Posted February 6, 2013 If you replicate that "smokers cough" after a while, or some dizziness the first time your character it would be goodAnd alcohol should be in for purely medicinal reasons (i repeat myself here)
BSB Jimmy 360 Posted February 6, 2013 dont mind having them but they dont increase your aim as someone said (i dont know what he was smoking)
CreepySalad 108 Posted February 6, 2013 I would aprecciate just to have it.But for others, it would have to have some benefits, but I can't think of any.Alcohol can make you warm temporarily, but make you get cold faster. I don't have one for cigs, though. If coke were added, it could make you faster, but make your guy's gun sway more. I dunno. I'm doing some live brainstorming here. Help me out. mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted February 7, 2013 (edited) I apologise for the wall of text which follows, I'm just sharing my views. I encourage you to read and respond.Any beneficial sensation from smoking is VERY short lived. But it definitely serves to calm your nerves. Also, it stops you from feeling hungry for an hour or so, but I don't know why.It also occasionally makes you need a dump when you didn't before.Craving a cigarette is NOT the opposite of having a cigarette, in terms of sensation. Smoking (+ aim) / not-smoking (- aim) is not an authentic representation. Needing to eat/drink 15% more regularly while craving (10 minutes after smoking, for +/- 10 hours play time? We should be able to quit eventually, lol) would probably represent the function better IMO.I do not have, and never have had, a "smokers cough". EDIT: Though I do occasionally have a Barry White voice in the morning. /EDIT.All this comes from personal experience. If you don't smoke, though I'd appreciate your input, you simply don't hold the perspective to make assumptions on the subject. Unless you happen to be a doctor of biochemistry. As for alcohol. It thins the blood. So resistance to cold/pain(if pain is a SA feature) would be balanced by the fact that your aim would be less reliable and you'd bleed out faster. (maybe 10% faster?)Just as IRL, you'd have the option not to take up smoking.I feel this subject is worth continued discussion,I understand people don't like smoking, and some REALLY don't like smoking. Lets just try to avoid blatant nay-sayer attitudes, k? Edited February 7, 2013 by Chabowski
scoffield77@gmail.com 192 Posted February 7, 2013 Smoking doesn't relieve stress, it's like people who eat a lot cause they get stress.. It doesn't help you, it makes you fat... it's just a habit and a re-action to stress. Only relieves stress on a physiological level. As far as smoking in the game, idc.. it's in real life so why not... but don't make up benefits to smoking to justify it.I think it would be interesting how many people would smoke in game.and I'm completely against the game being political correct, If rocket isn't going to do it, then don't do it cause it's frond upon, but for another reason. mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted February 7, 2013 What do not smokers do when they stress out? They stay stressed.Physiological stress-relief, IS stress relief.I hate to appeal to majority, but if you believe the percieved benefits are imaginary, many smokers would disagree.Even if it's a placebo, psychology would tell you that the effects are VERY real.Physical repurcussions do have a tangible effect, nobody should be able to deny that. exo.geni@hotmail.it 13 Posted February 7, 2013 It would be worth to having it in game just for the fact that someone is going to smoke at night.
mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted February 7, 2013 HA. I like your thinking. You wouldn't see it beyond +/- 50/100 metres though. (tried this while camping)
scoffield77@gmail.com 192 Posted February 7, 2013 (edited) Physiological stress-relief, IS stress relief.Well then let's make a suggestion for cramming your face, to relieve stress... or the thousand of other little things people do to relieve stress, maybe a prayer animation to relieve stress... or jogging... or maybe even a masturbation... Or being around friendlies should relieve stress...Of course that's me being sarcastic.. I don't want any of those things. If we give in to this 'stress' bullshit, what's next PTSD for our avatars, seeing 'flashback' of dead people...There shouldn't be any physiological effects should only be the ones immediately caused by suppressive fire. mr_chabowski@live.co.uk 2416 Posted February 7, 2013 (edited) Then we'll have to agree to disagree. It might be difficult to represent on a computer, but if any game should attempt to make psychosomatic responses a feature, it's DayZ.Your character already starts to hyperventilate when attacked by Zeds, which seems to cause you to dehydrate quicker.EDIT:It's all in the same boat. It's an occurrence which has an emotional/psychological impact, in turn, bringing about a physical reaction.
