DayZ is not on Steam (Yet).

You can buy Arma II/OA on Steam, install DayZ mod, and then LAUNCH DayZ from steam.

But You can not buy it from the Steam store as of yet.

Dayzmod.com for mod... Steam for ArmaII/ArmaOA DayzCommander to manage them all ...

To go off of what Rott said, DayZCommander is easily the best tool to use for playing DayZ. Not only does it have a very large server list that alows you to filter them through a variety of settings, but it doesn't have any ads, it doesn't require you to 'Sign In' or 'Register', and it's easy to use. This is what I use all the time, and I have never had a problem with it.
