How does this work? Does it apply to one server? How do you get in private hives?

Gets you on the "private party" list of a particular server. It only applies to specific servers you request whitelisitng for but it's the most effective way of preventing hackers running wild ona server and ruining players' lives/camps etc.

We presently run 1 whielisted server and it's our safest server so far. We get players to apply for whitelist via our webesite and usually have players online and gaming on that server at the most within 24 hours

Depends on the hive. If you whitelist with Balota Buddies you are whitelisted for 6 (I think?) different servers in 3 regions: US, UK, AU.
