Uncle Zed 272 Posted February 5, 2013 I really don't understand the thrill of killing other players. My goal is to get the gear I need to survive and explore. If I see a bandit, of course I want to kill him, but if I have nothing that is a threat to someone else, like I'm walking around with a pistol in my hands, and I'm walking the opposite way, there's no reason for someone to shoot me but some people like to be asshats and do that anyway.

maribel21 4 Posted February 6, 2013 I like being friendly, figure there are enough ass hats around that being friendly is a nice change of pace.
rebornnarsil 9 Posted February 6, 2013 People shoot me on sight everytime, even if I have only a hatchet. Only completely unarmed players don't kill me. That's why i tend shoot everyone who is close to me. Sorry, I have died too many times in a too short period of time to be friendly.

irl-calibre 744 Posted February 6, 2013 my tip would be to conceal yourself and ingage first of all by typing in DC, if you can get a conversation going that way and youassess them to be sound enough, then and only then use your mic to talk some more as now they can locate you by the sound of your voice. only ever talk in direct chat when you know the odds are stacked in your favour. running up to people shouting "friendly" isn't really the way to do it.. unkillable94 149 Posted February 6, 2013 All this talk about killing on sight is making me sick. It's an endless cycle, people get killed as a bambi and then think it's the only way to go, and it's killing the spirit of cooperation in the game. I lone wolfed for a long time, then met up with a few randoms and formed a group which we are now growing into a clan, and there is a huge difference. All of my best memories have been in these last 2-3 weeks with these random strangers I met online.Pick a good private hive and build a reputation. On our last server, the first night two guys helped me fix up a huey for nothing. I figured I would pay it forward and take a huge risk by giving people rides in the Huey. Instantly these two groups of people became my group's strongest allies for the time we were there and I wouldn't take back a second of it. Our clan tag became synonymous with heroes and helping people, and we got a good reputation. We moved around with almost no issues, and those few people who thought it would be a good idea to shoot on sight were hunted down and brought to justice by our friends. It is possible.Especially the people saying to befriend people then shoot them in the back, fuck you. You're ruining the game and acting like complete douchebags. There is banditry, there is turning the game into a CoD deathmatch, then there is being a flat out asshole.
namvet1974 12 Posted February 6, 2013 I am still going with the intent of finding friendly forces to link up with but have been betrayed on all occasions. One guy with a hatchet was getting chased by zombies so I joined in the chase and took down 2 zombies thus rescuing the hatchet man, told him to follow me to a safe place, which he did, then buried his axe in my head when I went to my backpack andvtook all my gear...nice.Still hoping to find some urban pals to create a new red dawn wolverine group. SiiriXX 159 Posted February 6, 2013 I run around with my gun pointed down.. it helps a lot.I get shot a lot too but thats part of the game (it does get annyoing if you get shot 8 times in an hour)I always play friendly and when you play on the same server most of the time people will get to know and they will respect you. There are always moments where you get shot by a paranoid player :P
strayshadow 81 Posted February 6, 2013 If I spot someone I watch them, see what they're like. If they seem trust-able I'll try and get close enough to speak to them from a hiding place, if not I wait till they're gone then I move on. If they spot you first then its totally up to the other player. Just be very alert when moving around. I've always tried to play DayZ without killing another player (makes it more fun for me), you can go for some considerable time before your luck runs out. Nadja92 13 Posted February 6, 2013 I feel bad for the person who spoke, "friendly, friendly" and my partner shot him, only for him to get shotgunned in the face. Sometimes it backfires.... haha
