kingfury4 65 Posted February 2, 2013 When I purchased DayZ I stuck to no PvP servers so I didn't get the caution reflex. Well I've been on regular servers recently. I found a UAZ and I have to say having a vehicle is not really worth it. You're extremely obvious and getting out to loot or something is extremely suspenseful. The only benefit is gear space and faster traveling. What's your opinion on vehicles?
krihelion 175 Posted February 2, 2013 i use it to get from point A to point B, and use it as cover when in a fight. My cars usually last 2-3 hours if im cautious with them.
AIRCAV 62 Posted February 2, 2013 Vehicles are a disposable luxury, viewed as anything more, they're a liability. Useful if you're rolling as part of an organized group. With the present graphics engine though, they're almost impossible to hide (trees become 2D at long range, anything hidden behind the tree therefore becomes visible to a long-range observer), particularly from helos.Risk versus reward though- with a vehicle, you can cover large distance, with much better chance of finding a helo crash. As ever though, keep all you care about in your inventory and backpack- including enough food and water to ditch everything and run for it.AC
petermann2 19 Posted February 2, 2013 They obviously have their downsides. But it's still fun to use them cause of their rarity and the comfort of travelling fast from A to B with your friends etc.I still prefer bicycles. I once travelled through Chernarus with two friends on three bicycles. It was just hilarious.Pros:- we never needed to refuel- fast offroad- not noisy like cars- easy to hideCons:- no space for gear- if you crash into each other, you break your bones and the bike can't be picked up until the next server restart (similar to ATV's)

V2_Danny 48 Posted February 2, 2013 It depends on what kind of server you play on.If you play on a high spawn server with 50+ cars on it, chances are most of the players are going to be wheeled, and you will meet on equal terms if you randomly meet someone else.If you play on a normal spawn server (eg. official hive spawn rate), vehicles are best used at nighttime, and in conjunction with NVG,s. Driving a car at speed, with the lights off will most likely leave anyone wanting to shoot you out of range to fast.On both servers if you plan on doing anything more than drive straight trough a town, park the car a little away, scout the town, then drive in and get the loot.In real life cars are awesome and saves me walking every morning.

PracticalTactical 164 Posted February 2, 2013 (edited) Bicycles are best vehicle in game (but they cant store anything). If you have a group of people vehicles are very usefull, but are noisy and an easy target for someone to take pot shots at. I find the best way to avoid your position being given away while you have a vehicle is to hide it around 300 meters away from the area you plan to loot then move in by foot. Or another thing that I find is also effective is simply stepping on the gas and zooming through town! Chances are if there is a player there you will suprise him/her and they will take several rapid and inaccurate shots at your vehicle (most probably will miss) thereby giving away their position and telling you what weapon they are using. I have hidden cars for weeks on end without anyone finding them but those days are long gone now (back in the days without skiddies and glitchy private hives that reset every 3 hours). plrsniper 87 Posted February 2, 2013 The quad bike is my personal favorite. And NO, i don't tend to flip them as easily as some would suggest. The main reasons it's so good are:* Rather quiet.* Green color, easier to conceal.* Small frame, fits through most road blocks.* Fast off road. The main downsides are:* Small tank.* Small storage.* Must be extremely vigilant to even the tiniest obstacle. Even running over a rabbit is risky business. Can't speed over brudges.
Josh225 129 Posted February 3, 2013 If you're solo a bicycle is absolutely the way to go. If I'm with a squad I like having cars but they become an inconvenience for looting towns and I become very paranoid about it being stolen when it's out of sight. SteveLord 32 Posted February 3, 2013 I avoid choppers like the plague. Can't fly them, they take forever to refuel, everyone can see/shoot at you and everyone wants to find you. They also have the risk of glitching/kicking the pilot and therefore making everyone crash.Cars I dislike a little less. They are great for storing gear and picking up buddies when you've all logged in and are at different locations or if someone happens to die so you recover them and gear them rather quickly. But they are still noisy and the scavenging for parts gets annoying at times. In conclusion, I prefer to move around on foot for the most part.
