If your character catches on fire, How about stop, drop, and roll? you simply roll on the ground to quickly put it out. Your character is smoking and others can see it. Some of your items could be damaged by fire.

not sure where you get the 'if your character catches fire' bit from, but the image of a smouldering survivor desperately rolling about made me smile so beans for that
