Item Looting Radius

Recommended Posts

Alright so I'm hooooorrribble at picturing distances, but lets say any item as an entity (can be picked-up) guns, beans, morphine, etc. Has an item radius. So basically if you're standing within X amount of meters of it, it'll show up in your scroll list to pick up. (3-5 Meters for Example) this'll get rid of issues of having to pick-up items and drop them somewhere else to get like a bag from underneath them.

In real life I can reach backwards and pick some beans off the ground while looking at the door, now there doesn't need to be an animation for this but it makes sense. And this would solve common issues like not being able to pick-up an item then having to circle around it looking every which way to pick it up then get mauled by zombies on the way out.

I'm not sure this would work with the new loot spawn system. The new system allows items to spawn on shelves, tables and very specific places meaning to search through a building for example will actually mean having to look properly rather than just looking at the floor like we do ATM.

As long as the new items have decent hit-boxes so we don't have to scroll over the exact pixel to pick something up I think it'll work well. If we had your system we'd end up with a list of everything in that radius and looting would just be a case of running around scrolling the wheel without actually having to search properly.

P.S - There's a typo in your sig ;)

I know, I liked this one and another I'm using on the BB forums. The other has like your avatar on it though ^_^

I'm only kidding with you. When I made it I was tired so didn't see the typo. Tomorrow I'll see if I've still got the original file and spruce it up for you. If I find it I'll PM it to you or I can do you a new one if you want.

From what I have seen and herd so far, it seems picking up items will be similar to STALKER. In stalker items can be practically anywhere. On shelves, in drawers, on tables, etc. To pick something up in that game, it is a simple as aiming your mouse at the item and pressing a key.

It seems like DayZ will be similar in that regard. The interaction menu never wants to appear in Arma, so hopefully that can be fixed.
