What is "Whitelisted/Whitelisting"?

Hello all,

I've been playing on and off since the initial release, but have recently returned from a long hiatus. My buddy just bought a server and we would like to attract more players, general consensus seems to be people like to play on whitelisted servers..

Thing is…We are not quite sure what exactly whitelisting is. Can someone tell me if there is a universal way to get whitelisted? How does one do this? Where can I read up on this?

Basically, people can't join unless their GUID is on the list.

And no, the whole point of a whitelist is that it isn't global... you have to sign up to each server individually.

A whitelist is a certain list of people that are allowed to enter a server. This reduces the amount of hackers that join servers because they only join servers that are easy to access and where it is easy to fuck around with the people on the server.

A good example of whitelisted servers is Balota Buddies, they have a few whitelisted servers and hardly any hacker ever comes on their servers which is good :)

Thanks for the replies. So this is something set up by individual admins (email etc...), or is there a type of software that is universally used to whitelist?

Some you have to email, other are set up so you just register on their website for instant access. Usually you join the server, then get kicked but follow the link in the kick message . They will have your GUID by looking in Dart etc, then you just give them your in game name.

We've used both methods but find rollbacks a better option. White lists don't guarantee a hacker free server and can put players off joining.

Im just coming back from a long break myself. Couldnt stand the rampant hacking. Finally get the game installed an working properly. Within an hour of starting...the entire server was teleported out in the ocean and killed by a hacker.

If someone would kindly point me in the right direction for getting on the whitelist for a few servers, Id greatly appreciate it.

just filter whitelist in your server browser or dayz commander.

most servers which use it have it in their server name.

look for the good ones in your region. then go for them.
