dayz original?

According to this thread the only original video game is the first video game and all the other are just copies.

Well I'm saying that video game is original if it has given something so new to the genre that it really doesn't fit in that genre anymore and that's what DayZ is. It's way more than a zombie shooter, it's survival against the environment in a open world sandbox which just have zombies.

Is this your own definition? Sounds very upfront about it.

Arma 2 is a sandbox game. I think people just carry it over because dayz obviously runs on arma.

I'd agree that Arma 2 is one of the 'purest' sandbox games, the mission editor, mods etc shows that you have some true input in shaping your experiences ingame.

I'm taking about things like GTA and sadly DayZmod.

You can change vehicle and weapon, shoot some AIs or other players.. Thats about it.

Before the 'imagination' crowd storm in, you can wonder around and have a few limited actions, but thats not enough tools to make it sandbox. Thats just 'freeroam'.

Unfortunately for you, GTA is listed as the most influencial sandbox game of the 21st century. GTA SA pretty much set the bar when it comes to sandbox games. I'm not saying that it was the greatest sandbox game ever, but it had an extreme amount of depth. I'd say that with the player customizations and such coming, that the DayZ SA is on the verge of being a real sandbox game.

GTA SA had some depth, the rest of the series hasn't even half the content of it. If Rockstar can up their game for the next one it should be interesting. Still doesn't change the fact that the 'Sandbox' term is just a marketing term for a game world thats remotely 'open'.

GTa Sa was released 2004? Thought it was earlier than that.
