What makes a successful bandit???

Recommended Posts

We've been on the scout for new bandits to give us a challenge over at the Fogeyz server but few have really been up for the challenge. What do you think makes a successful bandit and why? Do you hit and run, roam in packs or sit and wait for your prey to come to you?

Roam in small "Squads" like split for 2 and 2 or 3 and 3 to cover more area for players and Loot like Chopper crash sites, make 1 Alpha and the other Bravo Mix the players so they get to know eachother and help getting better.

Make the squads do different tasks like, a squad mission for each squad, and it's always better to be more than 1 in a squad ;D

Tactics, Accuracy and not freaking the fuck out when you see someone

A group more then 4 should be coordinated like a ground OP on arma, 2 elements are better than one.

I spend an hour a week on my custom scripted fort benning shooting range where i just work on accuracy with all guns, including sidearms and long range snipers.

The manner in which a bandit goes about his banditry makes him what he is. He can sit in a bush and ruthlessly kill passer by's, sometimes having to wait for hours for such opportunity... or he can storm towns looking for his prey, maybe he even gets his kicks from offing hatchet wielding fresh spawns. He's ultimately the worse person to be near on the server. He will tend to kill not only for the thrill, but the challenge.

If possible a bandit should be avoided at all costs unless of course one is also a bandit.

Having personally tried the banditry side of Dayz the tricky part for a lone bandit (like myself) is staying alive long enough to call yourself one.

The most successful bandit lives I've lived were all about going into areas undetected or staying a long distance from your killzone at a point where a normal player won't expect you. When sniping, you need to be super-patient. Zeroing works great all the way out to the limits of your rifle, so as long as you have all the key windows, loot piles, and vehicles sorted out ahead of time, you just need to wait for them to sit still and give you the shot.

If you're fighting with anything else, it's all about using walls and leaning. In these kinds of fights, you don't usually know you're going to be fighting until you hear someone drive up or you hear the zombie aggro, so your success at staying hidden will come down to how careful you were at not being spotted before they moved in and how well you can stay that way. Don't let any fight turn into a shootout. Make your shots and if things go well, loot what you want, bury the body so the extra guns don't get picked up, and leg it. If things go south, run. If you can't run, take them on a goose chase to somewhere with only one or two entrances with lots of Zed. The zombies will make it hard for them to linger outside and the limited entries will force them to walk into your bullets. At this point they'll either back off or it'll come down to skill and who's nerves are the least shot.

I would think maybe some sort of bait would be good. For example, a car that is fixed but no gas in it. Once the player gets in, the bandit shoots with their choice of weapon, and procedes to loot, perhaps by a friend overwatching the situation.

I think a lot of it is just common sense. Some times being slow and steady is the way to go, other times you just have to throw caution to the wind and attack. The amount of times that I have charged someone and killed them while my friend is trying to talk me out of it, is unbelieveable.

Misdirection is a powerful tool, yet most people don't seem to use this tactic effectively.

People can be so idiotic in this game, shoot in their general direction and they will hide like a scared little bunny rabbit.

A successful bandit survives on only what he takes from his victims. :) Looting is like work. Bandits dont like to work. Prey on the weak and only fight when you will win;
