What do new players prefer?

Day/Night Cycle? Yes or no?

  1. 1. As a new player, would you like a day/night cycle if you get NVG's?

IMO if you take away the night you take away a big part of the game but that's just my personal opinion.

Indeed, should just make it so the server has a full moon everynight.

I dont like being given anything when I spawn on the coast. Seems kind of pointless to start out with anything other than a flashlight, bandage, and painkillers. Explore, go scavenge, Survive. This is DayZ.

The first couple days I played, I played in darkness and it was crazy, but now I actually prefer it when sneaking around a city. Never have found a NVG. I do up the gamma a bit so I can see a couple feet in front of me though.

I dont understand the point of making it night time and spawning everyone with NVGs. Might as well make it 24/7 day time its basically the same thing.

Exactly! And that's what some admins are doing, as so many people want to play the game but so few can get NVGs.

Map/Compass/Day + Night (Twilight)/Bandage/Hunting Knife.

It's awesome at night I survived on my first ever go for 30+ hours through day and night and only died because of a hacker. Night is EERIE as hell man.

I have a new server up that caters to new players, like myself. It gives a starting loadouts to make things easier. It's currently 24/7 daylight but I was thinking of making it day/night, and the players start with NVG's. What do you guys think? Is this something that new players would enjoy? I know that when I first started, I didn't like the idea of a night cycle because I didn't have any way to see, but with NVG's, maybe it's better?

The problem i have with servers like this is they set an unrealistic expectation for the SA. At least i hope it is unrealistic assuming the SA will follow the anti game expectation that many of the rest of us have. If these new folks playing Dayz mod light have no intention of migrating to the SA then no big deal i guess. Otherwise it is setting up a potential rift in the community that doesnt have to be there.
