gingermonkey 1 Posted January 23, 2013 Hi AllI have been playing this a couple of days now (great game...shame about Inventory) but the main issue I have is which server to choose.I chose a server last night. It started me with nothing which is spot on, I then played a bit and aborted but when I rejoined a different server I started from scratch again losing all my effort.How can I ensure that I do not repeat this?What do you guys do? 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
beatSTV 631 Posted January 23, 2013 (edited) you need understand if you play on a private hive server your gear will not be transferred. You will need to play on the public hive for this to happen, however i personally do not recommend this, find a server you like and stick to it, there are several to choose from i would suggest a private hive with very active admins (like one i admin for in my signiture) or a whitelisted server (i.e. one where you apply on a website and then are granted access (balota buddies is the best one i've played on)) any other questions on servers please feel free to ask and i will do my best to answer Edited January 23, 2013 by beast101 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
boneboys 7988 Posted January 23, 2013 Play on the same Server !Ok a little more info.There are Official Hive Servers, your gear will carry over from one server to another.Then you have Private Hive Servers, generally you should stick with the same server.If you use DayZ Commander to launch the game it is possible to select between Public & Private using a filter (little cloud, I believe).Choosing your server is another question, most people are playing on Private, or so it seems, less hackers being one reason and different start gear up & vehicles being another. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
boxman80 964 Posted January 23, 2013 As above, there's a different servers, main hive servers (these seem to be fairly quiet these days because of the admin limitations but allow gear transfer as they are all on a universal database) and private hive servers which are normally isolated to a single server - UNLESS you're on a Vilayer hosted server where you can transfer gears between servers running the same version of Day Z.For example, if you join our taviana server, then go to another vilayer Taviana server you will have your gear from our server. Biquet 0 Posted January 23, 2013 Hi all!Is there any way you can know which is the basic gear you have on one particular server?I'm also all about the "start with (basically) nothing" idea and I have some trouble finding servers where you don't start with either maps or weapons.The map isn't necessary at all btw, I like to locate myself using the map on dayzdb or on dayzcentral, that feels more "real" then using a map with auto-tracking. Sula 1205 Posted January 23, 2013 (edited) Hi Ven, it is confusing, isn't it? Most of the servers are private now, if not all. Some are whitelisted (meaning you need to be on that hive's database to get in) or passworded but most are open to the public.Because they're private hives (hives are groups of linked servers on which you keep the same character and gear) the admins can add weapons, remove them, start you with a gun or 2 bandages or add or remove start items as they see fit. I don't think there is a public hive anymore (by which I mean an official hive that links lots of servers. A month or so ago Rocket tweeted a message saying the company that runs the official server had closed it down. I haven't heard any more and I can't find my old official servers from the official hive.)I suggest you go into lots of low ping ones and write down the ip addresses and names of the ones you like. Then you will know where you are and what gear you had on them for when you revisit. That's unless the admin decides to change the server to Namalsk or some other map without any warning - which a lot of the idiot type admins do!Edit - Go to the Private Hive Discussion Forum for all the private hives and servers (http://dayzmod.com/forum/index.php?/forum/64-private-hive-discussion/) and have a good look to see what they are offering.
