Point classification system

Recommended Posts

Hey all I had an idea about a point classification system for all the items in dayz. This would be a simple ranking system based on how useful an item is dependent upon your play style (PVP, RPG) and how often you found an item. This will be subdivided into hopefully 4 classes (junk, weapons, supplies, food/gear). I was thinking that I should incorporate food into the 3rd class supplies but I believe that it is a popular topic. I was also thinking of the possibility of replacing it with Medicine. This would be useful in the went of comparing statistics and might open doors into future designations of experience. For instance instead of saying I have a survivor in Cherno to a friend you could also give your item value score which will give him an idea of your ability to defend yourself. This for obvious reasons would be bad to say to random people but it would also be useful if you would like to compete with your friends or deciding who should do what while in a group. I also had an idea of adjusting a total value score of all game time by doing a simple function of time over value of all players then go more in depth and can determine a better value later by setting different values for how much time spent In towns and which route you take around the world based on the different loot values of town and distance of each route based on popular towns. This idea was originally based off of an idea I had for a similar point system for Starcraft 2. And finally decided to start after I heard a similar idea from a friend on warz forums.

I am not too sure i am following your idea.

Are you saying that with a point system you can say i am a "3 junk, 10 weapons, 3 supplies, 0 food" Survivor in Cherno - meaning you are OK for weapons but low on food?

What benefit to game play would be brought by telling your friend your worth an arbitrary amount of points compared to him. If you want to compare stats with a friend just tell him you have (for example): A dmr with 4 mags, food, and a PDW. You don't need a made up point system to compare stats with friends

Agreed. Using a system like this shatters the immersion if my character has some numerical value placed on him.

Say if you fall into one or more of the different subclass such as junk or weapons or food then you can determine based on a hopefully generated program what you can improve on or how you compare since the values will be based off of different playing styles and difficulties. Say that you have traveled by 2 of the ocean side cities that are small and you pick up 3 junk 10 weapons and 3 supplies then you can look at a guide that will hopefully be made to see where you fall and how long your supplies will last based off of the map guide and loot percentages (this does sound unrealistic but it's possible). So you could have a value system to determine what you need to look for or by having a total value a certain trading system can be derived. Response to demongrover

I agree that it may be harmful to the in depth players of the game that truly want to emerge themselves in it. But I do not wish this to be a way of cheating just a way of ranking your items and different routes you can take through the world and like I said in the above post can be handy when used to trade.

Making this point system is not about creating something bran new that everyone is going to use it is just improving on the methods of comparison that are present in the community. And it is helpful for new or semi new players to see where they should go and how to successfully survive and even go as far as to thrive.

I should have been more clear in saying that it also focusing more on the value of specific items in game and the subclasses as the total value of every specific item. So rather then saying you have a random gun I know nothing about you could say I have a gun worth...
