Chatting with dead guys?

Hey guys, not that new to DayZ, but not 100% clear on all the little quirks.

I've been watching the infamous FrankieonPC's DayZ videos and noticed that he has a tendency to berate people who decide to tangle with him after he holds them up. Sometimes these guys are unconscious, but other times there's been a death notice.

Do dead people hear any chat channel? My experience has been that you do not hear chat while dead. Or was this something that you used to be able to do (ie chat with recently killed players) and has since been removed?

You can hear and talk a little short time after your dead, but when the "You are dead" screen appears you can not longer interact with people that are dead or alive in-game.

In my experience, however, you can chat while in the 'You are dead' screen, and hear other people talk on any voice channel. Never tried using my mic while in the screen, so I can't say anything about that.
