Server Setup Questions

Recommended Posts

1. How to disable global chat?

2. How to disable VOIP for global chat (side chat)?

3. How to disable weapon crosshairs?

4. How to disable player nametags?

5. Apparently Arma II uses "Classes." Which class is used for the players?

6. How to disable 3rd person?

7. Viewdistance in the config file. What does increasing this do for the players on the server? Its default at 1600. Can I increase this to increase max viewdistance for the player or something? Or do I leave it at 1600?

8. How do you ban/kick people? Using hfbservers for hosting and I have access to the web console.

9. How do you talk in some sort of ADMIN chat for the purpose of alerting players to server restarts and whatnot?

1) Global/side/command channels already disabled in latest DayZ mission file.

2) Global/side/command channels already disabled in latest DayZ mission file.

3) Edit the server's profile file, and set weaponCursor= 0 for the difficulty that you are planning to use.

4) Will be automatically disabled when weaponCursor is off. However, you can set friendlyTag = 0 and enemyTag = 0

5) ?

6) Edit the server's profile file, and set 3rdPersonView= 0 for the difficulty that you are planning to use.

7) Every player will be forced to server's view distance in MP. However, it can be overwritten by mission file (and most likely is overwritten in DayZ mission)

Well if the global chat already disabled in the latest mission file then how is it available on my server? I'm only asking about it because it's currently on and I'm running the latest patch. What's more, what's the deal with the mission file and what do I need to be doing to keep it up to date? I see in the MPmissions folder that there's a LOT of mission files, but I don't see which one is for DayZ. I'm very unclear on what the mission file does and how to make sure I've got the right one for my server.

Are you running the latest ArmA 2 beta patch and also restricting the joiners from joining with earlier version? If not, you should do it. Those clients that are not using beta patch can still access the global channels. You have make sure no one can join without it.

Mission file is the dayz_xxx.Chernarus.pbo and you can get latest version from the same location you got earlier version.

Well with the mission file the thing is I put my server up through HFBservers.com and everything came all setup. They didn't, however, explicitly provide me with any mission file nor access to any sort of directory of them. That being said, how do I go about obtaining the latest one?

That shouldn't be possible. Are you sure you've edited the same profile file that is used by the server?

So any heads up on what I need to do to obtain the latest mission file? Since I wasn't directly given access to any particular file when I set my server up through HFBservers I can't go to the "same location" I got the previous one. I'm still waiting to turn the chat off on my server.

I mean, 50 people on a server with constant chat is pretty annoying.

Unfortunately I can't help you with that' date=' as I'm not an admin. Hopefully some other admin / DayZ staff member can provide you more info.

I thought all server hosts (at least those I've talked to in IRC) were given a location where to download the mission files.

I fixed it.

How did you fix it? Was it a wrong profile file that you had edited before?

Wondering if anyone had found a fix for this yet. I also have a server hosted by HFBServers, and am having the same issues. Most servers appear to be properly updated, however I still have a Side Chat channel as well, and would like to get this resolved.

In your server.cfg file, you need to edit the requiredBuild setting. It has the forward slash's in front of it "/". These are not supposed to be there. Delete the 2 forward slashes in front of the "requiredBuild = 93965" setting and the command will actually start enforcing the beta restriction. This will keep users who have older beta version from joining your server and not let them still have access to the side chat channel.

I hope this helps!

Make sure you update your mission file to the latest one. Its frowned upon to post the links publically. PM me and i'll send you the link to get your latest mission file.
