Zombie instances (Walking Dead Prison experience)....

Recommended Posts

Reading the following tells you a little bit of info on Walking Dead Series 3 episode 1-2.... So don't read if you don't want to know :-)

Just been watching walking dead series 3... Where they take over the prison and it got me thinking, wouldn't it be good if we could have something similar in the game?

What I mean is:-

There is already talks of making "instances" for underground bases etc couldn't we do the same sort of thing for this, where there are areas (prison or underground army bunkers etc) that you and a group of people could walk into as a team and try to clear...

Find keys and lock areas to secure them etc

If you do manage to take over the whole area, then we could carry on building it like the bases already being talked about be rocket.......

Or another idea is it gets over run again a few days later or something, which means there should be rewards in the instances like good weapons, "better" food, medical supplies etc

Or it could just be a separate state to be shown and brag about (look at www.shizweak.com for what I mean)...

Actually I really do like the stats idea but how to record? Instance cleared? Or different state for zombie kills and instance zombie kills? Or both?

Oh oh and you could have a separate state for hand to hand kills, and firearm kills?

You want to raid dungeons with a group of players? Maybe get a chance at having some rare loots drop? I believe the world of Warcraft forums are this way----->

Currently we can already do what you are suggesting. Just to a lot less degree..

Hmm I don't remember anything like the prison clearing in walking dead being in game.. And certainly no control of areas being taken....

I guess you have to watch walking dead to understand what I mean (series 3 episode 1-2) as its nothing like WoW.....

P.S even if it was like wow (which is not what I'm wanting or suggesting) would that be so bad as it is the most popular game ever made with 11million people PAYING for accounts and even more playing....

The only trouble with dayz as it stands is it has no end game stuff (other than PVP) so this would give you something to do after you survived a day or 2 ;-)

you kind of spoiled a little bit of the show for those who have not seen season 3 yet or the ending of season 2

I've never seen an episode. I don't think they play it here in aus (maybe on foxtel/austar?)

This ability was loosely implemented into the game in the use of wire fencing and sandbags (the former of which was later used to block loot spots and just be a nuisance and the latter being unbelievably rare that you would have better luck finding rocket in-game).

Both are presented useless other than making small bases against players, and you are going to need quite a bit of fencing if you are going to pull off a camp in the middle of the woods.

I know Balota Buddies have themselves small bases they implemented in their UK server have pre-made bases that you can capture and hold from players if you wish. Never found any yet, but I had recently gotten back into the game and now having another go.

Regarding topic clarity, isn't this a suggestion?

Hmmmm again this isn't what I'm suggesting...... There is a huge difference between sticking down some "bugged/experimental" barb wire and searching and clearing a underground army base or prison, maybe having to find power to turn on lights so you can see more or using road flares etc, making sure you search and secure area by area so you don't get surrounded and attacked from all sides etc etc etc, the possibilities are endless...... including problem solving puzzles (like electric water that you have to put crates/pallets on so you can walk past... This is basic but you get the idea?) or they could just be pure kill and clear areas..... I'm only suggesting the basic idea

I'm sorry I don't seem able to explain what i mean clearly......

The best example I can give you in game is when I found the big tower on green mountain (http://i.minus.com/i***AliRMI9Mp.bmp)... I remember walking in that 1st door way and seeing a small passage way and that led to another small passage and then to a ladder with god knows what at the end..... But to my disappointment there was nothing there.. No zombies etc... But my excitement and game enjoyment was at it highest, until I realised it was empty.....

P.S barb wire and sandbags were a "test" that rocket knew was bugged but wanted to see if things were possible.. So if these were implemented properly u wouldn't be bad mouthing them as bad as you were...

everything suggested in this thread goes pretty much directly against the ethos of a sandbox game.

Sandbox means open world? You can do what you want and go where you want, right?

So when you see the hospitals in the main city's you can go in it or you can not, right?

So when you see an entrance to a underground facility you can go in it or you can choose not to? Also these can be random events like the helicopter crash sites...

If they are static, always in same location then this is just like the underground bases that rocket is mean to introduce, so don't really see a difference?

having a world to explore is exactly what it is about. having puzzle like mechanics don't fit to me.

something like A2, fine. but it doesn't sound to me that that is what the op is suggesting.

Hmmm the puzzles were a last minute thought that gives people something to do...

My main inspiration idea is to be like the prison clearing in walking dead..... I just think that is such a great idea to have, so long as it's done correctly....

I JUST LOVE THE IDEA OF CLEARING AREAS AND CLAIMING THEM FOR YOURSELF..... and this is exactly what I would do in a DayZ situation....

and what is "done correctly" ?

I agree it would be fun, but if it is any more than a building that zombies happen to be inside of then I don't think it fits really.

I love world of warcraft.... Although not played it in years and yes it is indeed THE best game ever made, Doesn't mean you should try and copy it thou... as I'm sure your aware lots have tried and failed.

You say what you want isn't anything like WoW but I have to agree it sounds a hell of a lot like WoW to me and in my opinion would suck monkey balls if implemented into dayz.

Also on top of that sounds like yet another kick in the teeth for people like myself who prefure not to rely on others and mainly play solo.

I've seen and read it.

then you know what I mean by done correctly?....... The example I gave you before of the tower on green mountain is how NOT to do it :-)

I don't because as you said "it is in your head".

You cannot have scenes like the ones in the comic without specifically creating/scripting zombie waves etc.

Have you seen walking dead episodes I'm talking about? Because at no point did I watch that and think "good I miss WoW, this is so like it"

Maybe it's because I used the world "instance", but that's how rocket was planning on doing the underground bases...

As for you wanting to be alone, that doesn't mean we should leave features out because they may upset you?.

Should we take the seats out of cars so only 1 person can sit in it? Etc...

And what about these bases rocket are going to introduce, that need group efforts? This is along the same sort of idea...

Also a "scaling" system could be put in place, so if you go in on your own it won't be as hard as if 4 people go in?

No...

You have an open world where you can go any where and do anything, and 1 day you find an underground base (like rocket is putting in) you then enter this "instance" and you come across a series of tunnels/mazes etc that have swarms of zombies stumbling towards you, now you can hand to hand them or shoot them.... Your choice......

Then Once you have cleared the area 1 possibility is you have the base rocket intended you to have :-)

None of that is anti sandbox......

I did not say that Walking dead was like WoW and statment I'm sorry to say is very silly, I said your idea of having a zone where people work together to clear it without any interference from the outside world is. Underground bases are something entirely different and have nothing at all to do with your idea apart from as you say the word "instance".

As for you wanting to be alone, that doesn't mean we should leave features out because they may upset you?.

I did not say that instances should not be implemented due to the fact that I want to play alone, I said it would effect me in a negative way and that is what these forums are for, so people can give their side of the story on things and then get an all round veiw.
