Abexuro 17 Posted January 10, 2013 While elements of Take On Helicopters are considered to be implemented to make flying helicopters harder and more realistic. I think it would also be a good idea to make cars, bikes and the ATV's manuals in order to increase difficulty and realism. Because I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) that the mayority of (eastern) Europe drives manual cars. And almost all bikes are normally manual anyway.Inexperienced drivers could possibly stall the car or even damage the engine when driving wrong.Any thoughts on this?
chris_heyward 47 Posted January 10, 2013 I think it would be an awesome idea. I commented on the "Take on Heli" thread and was all for that too. Its what Rocket wants (according Matt Lightfoots interview with RhinoCRUNCH). He wants DayZ to be the sort of game where if you are good at something in real life, you would be good in game and if you were rubbish in RL, likewise in the game. ie. hacking, bypassing security systems. By the sounds of it, Rocket wants to make a criminal training simulator... lol
Dayz Steve 26 Posted January 10, 2013 good idea, but that means I wont be able to drive or fly anything lol
chris_heyward 47 Posted January 10, 2013 then you will find a teacher just like in RL... lol. Driving is easy. Just listen to the engine. She tells you what to do. Flying on the other hand is another story for me. Planes I should be able to handle but choppers? Hell no. I bet you 4 cans of beans and a Mountain Dew that within 1 hour of me finding a chopper in SA, the Cherno Hotel will just be a pile of rubble
Abexuro 17 Posted January 10, 2013 (edited) good idea, but that means I wont be able to drive or fly anything lolBoats are usually automatic. So go request some yachts and ships in the standalone, and become a pirate of the mighty seas! yarrr :Pthen you will find a teacher just like in RL... lol. Driving is easy. Just listen to the engine. enforcer1975 1111 Posted January 10, 2013 Could prove difficult but i'd at least prefer a system where you can choose the gears without having to bother about the clutch. It's really stupid to have arcady car controls in a simulator and you could use the power of the engine better if you could use a lower gear to climb a hill unlike now where you switch gears ( actually it's only the sound effect because the game doesn't know gears ) every second when you reach a certain rev treshold. Lady Kyrah 1110 Posted January 10, 2013 Or could be awesome. Would stop people from driving like idiots :)
Sutinen 635 Posted January 11, 2013 I would love this, I have wanted it since the start. Some cars should also be faster.. 120 kp/h, even a 125cc motorbike can go that fast :D
beatSTV 631 Posted January 11, 2013 yes yes yes awesome idea adding a clutch would be sweet, although the yanks would struggle :)
PracticalTactical 164 Posted January 11, 2013 I can drive stick shift, so absolutely! Everyone should drive stick shift and not knowing how to do so in DayZ would limit your ability to survive.

Everyone should drive stick shift and not knowing how to do so in DayZ would limit your ability to survive. That would be pretty cool, so you mean that if you hold one button down, the stick would appear (Like compass or clock, as a 3D model) and you would have to control it with your mouse? Hetstaine 10852 Posted January 11, 2013 Manuals yes..clickable controls..no :) Adding clickable cockpits/carpits is a lot more than just a simple animation..delay delay delay for things that are not really needed and overly complex. If you have a wheel/hotas control then things are a lot better and intuitive but how many people want a wheel stick combo plus hotas plus keyboard mouse setup in front of them while playing ? There has to be a line between playability and ease of entry even though it has sim elements.
nikiller 122 Posted January 11, 2013 hi,Very good idea. I always prefer manual when I have the choice.beans for you.cya.Nikiller.
Trivius 8 Posted January 11, 2013 As long as there are still some automatic variants too, I think good idea. You have my beans!
voddler (DayZ) 367 Posted January 11, 2013 Manual cars, I like it! It will make it harder for those people that just hold E (All of us right now), but really. It's not that tricky driving a car even with a manual vehicle.

But some vehicles tend to go faster when you're holding Shift+W instead of E. But none of the vehicles in DayZ uses that.. I think. Some cars should also be faster.. 120 kp/h, even a 125cc motorbike can go that fast :DThat's somehow an in game limitation for vehicles. I opened the pbos some time ago and changed the speed settings, there are even "gear ratios" which only change the sound, so there is no real transmission. Changing the speed didn't do anything. Somehow 120-130 kph is the limit for ground vehicles considering they are already hard to control. Some managed to make vehicles faster but i think it's a script. We've managed to get a vehicle to 300kph by using a booster script but it's more a ride on a cannon ball than driving because the steering won't work and you would be only skidding around taking damage from "colliding" with the ground. It's basically impossible to crash right now, it handles so well in corners because of the low speed.

voddler (DayZ) 367 Posted January 11, 2013 thats exactly what i do hahahaIs it the reason because you can look around? I hold E and hold over ALT to be able to look around quickly when I hear/see something.
