Some strange logs

Hello,

I've been getting a couple of dozen of these kind of logs from about 3 players from the createVehicle.log:

07.01.2013 04:33:45: <name> (<ip>) <guid> - #0 "CMflare_Chaff_Ammo" 19:163 2:484 C130J_US_EP1 [4601,7614,6] [13,28,0]

Now they are related to spawning a C130J_US_EP1 (some kind of plane), so someone is hacking. But should I ban everyone that has these logs? Anyone seen them before?

No I think thats just people who saw the plane fire flares.

Just ban the person who spawned the plane and your good.

I would ban the guy that spawned the plane if it actually had a log for it. I will leave these guys alone then. Thanks for your reply!

I BELIEVE that entry means they were flying it and firing the flares not seeing them from the ground.... could be wrong though.

I've only gotten those on my server when the person in the Mi17 fires the flares I believe you have to be pilot to do that.

This is exactly my thought on the case. If I see any of the guys doing such a thing again they'll get a ban (the plane is gone now after multiple restarts since then).

Remember, though, that you could be banning someone who hasn't actually cheated (or broken any in-game rules). If a cheater spawns something--then another player finds the vehicle and flies it--are they really deserving a ban? Granted, it's not the smartest choice to pilot a hacked vehicle, but it's also not technically against the rules. Think of how many bambis would jump into a vehicle and press keys without knowing what they even do. Then think of the opposite side too: if a cheater knows they can spawn vehicles and tell people to pop the flares (to get them a ban they don't deserve), it's just allowing them more ways to raise Cain in our servers.

I would say "no" on that--but I suppose that's up to each server's admin. With the amount of banlist sharing that goes on, I think people could be unfairly banned if the only criteria for banning is firing of flares in createvehicle.txt

Yup you're completely right on that. I haven't banned anyone for this incident. However, people who are clearly collaborating with scripters do get a ban from me. It's also in the server rules which are iterated every 45 minutes on my server. Chance someone missed that is slim, plus one can think that doing that will not be good. I don't particularly mind people who fly a hacked plane for all I care, it's the ones that teleport themselves / others around and go on a killing spree that I loathe.
