Bad Version. Server connection rejected.

Recommended Posts

hi,

ok so as of about a month ago+/- i keep getting "bad version. server rejected connection." messages when i try to start dayz, of any map through dayz commander. I've since done a complete reinstall, meaning that last night to today i:

1- uninstalled both arma ii and arma ii operation arrowhead (both steam), and deleated all the files (mods) left over after the installation

2- uninstalled dayz commander

3- ran a registry cleaner to remove any trace of arma ii, armaii oa or day z

4- reinstalled arma ii, and verified files, and started the game, OK

5- reinstalled arma ii oa, verified files and started game, OK

6- i did not get the option to start combined operations in steam, but i never got that option like some of my friends did in the past (i've walked people throguh installing arma to play dayz)

7- installed dayz commander and updated arma ii and the dayz mod

no go, still get the bad version, server rejected connection message.

here's a couple of screenshots

first is the constant screen shot both of these (taviana) as my guild just changed maps, previously it was chernarus....

now the below is from me trying to connect from the multiplayer search screen.

I had the same problem and managed to fix it.

What I did I tried to enable the In-Game overlay of Steam, when I did that, somehow on any custom map (except the original maps like Chernarus and Takistan) I got the same error message.

Now what to do:

Click on Settings, and there should be Steam options:

There are 2 boxes what can be ticked.

Now you guys probably only have Launch using Steam ticked and this will not work on any custom map, for that you have to tick both of them or none.

None: Will not count the gaming hours what u spend in DayZ

Both: Steam Overlay works (Shift+Tab) and it will count your hours.

PS:If this is not your problem I will check afterwards.

Problem resolved, and i think i know what happened. In the installations and re-installations, files though I thought removed were not, in fact removed from the installation folders (ie; prog files x86/steam.../arma2 oa/). the arma 2 folder was in fact still there as well but it didn't have anything in it. anyways, the steps i took to do it;

1] uninstall arma2 and arma2 oa through steam

2] go to the installation folders in the programs files and delete any remaining files there

3] uninstall playwith6 and daycommander (i use both)

-playwith 6 installs mod files in an arma 2 oa folder in My Documents, dayzcommander installs mods in the installation folder

4] i ran advanced system care's registry cleaner and then ccleaner's registry cleaner

5] restart computer

6] delete all the arma2 folders from my documents folder

7] resintall arma 2, and verify files in the properties (right click in steam) options

8] resintall arma 2 oa, and verify files in the properties (right click in steam) options

9] run arma 2, once in main menu exit out

10] same thing arma 2 oa

11] install daycommander / install playwith6

12] run dayzcommander install updates and mods

13] play game

14] and i did the thing you suggested ... i ticked both off =\

took me a day to do this cause i was doing other things at the same time, but i also made mistakes in the process that made it longer, like not removing files from the program folders before reinstalling

hope this helps anyone else =\
