Gordon Axeman 191 Posted January 5, 2013 Hello everyone.Today I was struck by an idea: why not to implement cats along with dogs? As animals seem not to be affected by the virus, and dogs are planned already, this seems legit IMO.Cats are tamed by fish or meat (my cat IRL loves raw meat a lot). They can sense someone's presense 60m around. When they sense someone, they make a hissing sound. When hungry/thirsty - they meow.As the cats have very good vision, they can spot people/animals/zeds in the distance. When they do so, they will begin sticking very closely to you and quietly hiss. They don't lose this ability at night. Also they can hunt small game like rabbits and chickens for you. The idea is still very rough. Thoughts?
OrLoK 16186 Posted January 5, 2013 Hello thereI'm a big cat fan and have owned cats all my life.I don't think *most* cats would bother following a mere human especially with all those new rats that are now everywhere to munch on"Trapse around in the cold with a stinky human, having loud and scary gunfights and being chased by Zeds? Nothankyouverymuch. A warm mouse filled barn for me." is much more likely IMHO.RgdsLoK

And a cat will be glad to come to anyone who feeds it and gives some warmth/shelter. If I were in a survival situation I would definitely pick a cat. These animals can save you from insanity and give some heat. Also, a man may put a cat in his backpack for it to avoid being hit, or even tie some foliage to him to make a ghillie cat xD. The possibilities have no borders, except human creativity.

Surely...Back in the real world, Having cats around to help you out is just stupid. Why? Because cat's don't really give a shit. Even though I'm not a fan of dogs being in the game I can clearly see that there is a hint of possibility of such a situation. 90% of dogs will follow you and if trained they will act on commands, the only trained cats I've seen opened doors and pooped in toilets. Sutinen 635 Posted January 5, 2013 (edited) There's a reason why there are no hunting or police cats. They are small, they can't hurt anything bigger than a mouse and are very easily scared off. They can also survive in the wild much easier without a human friend.. Edited January 5, 2013 by Sutinen
GeneticFreak 23 Posted January 5, 2013 (edited) I would eat the cat (and dog too) in a zombie apocalypse. People are already eating cats and dogs today in some parts of the world. What's stopping them lol. Edited January 5, 2013 by GeneticFreak

Derpy_Hooves (DayZ) 4521 Posted January 5, 2013 Cats would only be useful for 6 hours a day, they would sleep the rest of the time... well mine does.

person915 345 Posted January 5, 2013 (edited) We need more ambient life that affects the player. Cows, sheep, chickens, and goats have all been infected with the same thing: stupidity. They:-do not run when you fire at them-do not run when they hear you fire-do not run when zombies are freaking out-do not try to attack the player when threatened-do not run when player is near themAs well as some other things animals do but don't in ArmA. IMO*, instead of adding bloodsuckers like in Namalsk to all the maps, why not make more ambient life? Bears that will maul you, coyote that will hunt you, and just little cute kitties living in barns that you ruin their day when you walk in, but they might leave their food, giving you the catch instead? These things to me- dangers in the forest and elsewhere, and giving the player the OPPORTUNITY to be resourceful without having to be resourceful, seems like a good idea, doesn't it?Off-Topic Edit:I'd just like to point out also that there is a pile of hay in the barns on both sides and we might be able to do something about it that has a feature similar to what I'm getting at in another game so if you could please understand what I'm talking about and- *deep breath* support me on this. I mean a cow took 4 revolver shots to the head to go down, not exactly feeble little farm animals if you ask me >.>OT: Um... what use would a cat have? I mean really? Other than leaving a dead rat or something for you to eat it seems like all they'd do is shit and run like hell whenever they're in danger. I suppose you could use their incredible cuteness to distract bandits =P Edited January 5, 2013 by Excision
