Server Question Regarding Hackers

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I've been interested in getting my DayZ server for a while now. However, hackers have kept me from doing so. My question is, how easy is it for the server anti-hack to detect hacking? I noticed DayZ.ST has a live player/vehicle map (I think) so it would be pretty easy to spot a teleporter. But what about weapon/vehicle spawning and other hacks? Does the anti-hack that comes with the server take care of it or let you know that, 'Hey, somethings going on.'? Or is it something I'd have to go into the logs and look for? Because I wouldn't have a clue what to look for. Thanks!

Most of us Dayz Admins have no idea what the BEC logs do.

I find that lack of any information on what all the logs of BEC are reporting make me very uneasy about banning anyone.

Some logs tell you the effect of an hack on a victim so the log may in fact point to a victim GUID instead of the hacker. So be wary!

For example in setpos.log I often get :

02.01.2013 21:05:25: Derpston (99.99.99.99:99) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx - #0 shot 60:298 [6687,2306,6]

03.01.2013 11:54:50: Hdson (99.99.99.99:99) xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx - #0 2:1 FunctionsManager [1000,10,0]

No idea what these mean and despite searching the ARM2 web site and google, still can't find any answer.

So good luck with your own quest. :)

I would advise that you ban players based on what the other players tell you AND if you can find any logs that tell you 'something;. Remember people lie too in the chats about other players.

I always give that banned person the chance to send me an email and listen to their side of the story. Then if plausible, give them a second and final chance.

This side of server administration is a right royal pain and if it goes on for any longer I'll just abandon it all. I don't want the stress and all the time consumption it seems to take looking up logs up out of my personal life sadly.

Honestly its not to hard to figure out who is hacking as long as you are active on your server. Logs can help but most of the time a scripter is going to use a bypass which blocks batteye from seeing what they are doing, so because of that they won't appear in the logs. On my server we have a spectating script installed so if there is reports of teleporting or anything I can cycle through each player and watch them play for however long I wish. This tool came as apart of the DayZ control center which I will link below.

If you do decide to host a server I suggest you rent a dedicated server as opposed to something like DayZ.st(while they seem to be the best provider) and setup your DayZ server yourself. This is what we use and works wonderfully DayZ Control Center this way you have access to all of the filies and can customize your server easily. With this control center we host 2 servers currently off our dedicated box, that also hosts our teamspeak and a couple other gameservers. Its a little bit more money but its not to bad considering our community donates regularly.,

Is DayZ Controll Center a server or a server add on? Because I don't know who to use for DayZ server hosting.

The shot part of that log is usually someone picking up a chemlight or a flare that they threw. I get it most the time its night.

The functionsmanager still unsure about. I heard that we should ban but not entirely comfortable.

My advice .. after many months of admin a server by myself.. go private hive if you do it. At least then you have a bit more control. I am not kidding when I say that tonight I had to deal with a hacker at times every 10 minutes. Its a royal pain in the ass that will suck up all your time... there are filters. There are no really good anti-hack tools. It is only your manual labor and passion and it will suck you dry. If I didn't like the game so much I would quit.. but I want to try to make a good community out there. good luck.
