How to realistically simulate death

Recommended Posts

Hey folks, been enjoying DayZ for over a month now and it just keeps getting better and better.

DayZ prides itself on being hardcore which is why I keep coming back to it time and time again but one aspect of it has left me a bit disappointed which is in how death is handled.

Currently all you do once you bite it is effortlessly disconnect and reconnect, nothing more to it.

I suggest that for a player to properly realise how vital survival is and to make sure it's always their number one priority you should prevent players from joining a server for at least 24 hours after they have been killed.

I personally think a 48 hour cool-down before you can rejoin a server would be more suitable. The possible 'game' justification for it could be that 48 hours is how long it would take for a corpse to rot away. Of course it would prbly be closer to two weeks for a corpse to rot away but I think that would be a bit too long before you can play again.

I feel this would be a good idea way to punish reckless mistakes made by new players. What do you guys think?

I think losing all my gear is bad enough, I don't need a 24 hour "ban" on top of it.

You should also change the title of the thread, it's very misleading.

How about if you die in the game you can never join any dayz server ever again. That's the only way to realistically simulate death.

There should be atleast half of hour cooldown time after death. This would prevent people from respawning in hopes of better spawn point and also lessen the amount of players just running to Cherno for loot, since now they have really nothing to lose.

If you die in DayZ I will come to your house and attack you with a ballpeen hammer.

They didn't have anything to lose before either, you'd still respawn with the same gear you had when you started running around in cherno, only now you have less to begin with.

I think, this idea sucks really really hard.

Here's another one: Every time, a player dies in game, someone visits him and shoots him, so he can get the ultra realistic hardcore first hand experience of death....

This has been suggested many times and it is still the single worst idea anyone has ever had about anything ever.

You should feel bad for suggesting it.

kill everyone forever

Judging by the state of Chernarus, I think we can safely mark that task as "1/1 Accomplished".

I don't get how anyone could think this up... We were all noobs once, I still class myself as one and my current life has been about 2 hours and I have a lot of equipment (and I don't check the map or look at the spawn locations of weapons). My point being that just because you survive for longer than other people, doesn't mean that their multiple lives shouldn't exist while you're collecting all the loot with your singular life. I promote this idea if only the people that post it are involved.

I came in expecting people shitting themselves (attracting flies of course) and left disappointed.

I like this idea!

People would still be able to start over a new character on another server.

I like the sentiment of the OP, even if the implementation would be unfortunate.

Much worse are the bunch of asses who post their one or two sentence dissatisfaction because they for some reason feel the need to participate while being too lazy to actually criticize the OP constructively. Not everyone, but a lot of them.
